If it's the back of your throat, don't do it.

--Ruckus

How come? Just wondering.

There happens to be concentrated alcohol in most mouthwashes, combined with fluoride. Both may seem harmless in small doses, and on skin. But those two are the reason why you don't want to start chugging the stuff. They will only bother any wounds in your mouth and will more than likely hurt quite a bit.

Generally, bleeding from the throat in any case is serious. I know for certain...NC-17 reasons. If you're full on bleeding from the back of your throat, get your {expletive antidisestablishmentarianized by Cspace} over to a doctor. But all in all, wounds in the mouth heal extremely quick as far as cuts and infections. That's because our saliva is, surprisingly, clean.

Bah, I hate doctors like that--no offense meant to anyone, but I prefer to be told what is wrong with me. ShiftyEyes_anim.gif

I prefer my doctor as opposed to my dentist. At least my dentist can make me smile or laugh. He's a chatterbox. And I can't wait to get my first prostate exam. x3 I'm going to mess with him so much.

Dentists are the true devil. Especially if you play an instrument or rely heavily on your speech. They get inside of your mouth and tamper with your teeth. Your teeth and how they are situated reflect how your umbuschur(sp?) is shaped. That in turn reflects how you sound when you talk and how you blow air out your pursed lips...hence, screwing you if you play an instrument.

I got a crown put on by my dentist just yesterday. They use this really smooth tooth-looking stuff...so people can't really tell that it's fake. New ages, new technology I guess. The dorks made it waaay too big. I'm told it will shrink some, but it feels like I've got a friggin' mountain in my mouth. I'm constantly nibbling on my tongue all day, whether I want to or not. Rawr. If it doesn't shrink, I'm going to go ask him what he -really- did with my $600.

I second all of that except for bleeding from the throat..never had that happen before.

Non-alcoholic mouthwashes are much better for you. They don't have the same drying effect. This is why people with oral piercings (HAI!) are recommended to not use an alcoholic mouthwash, or dilute it if it's all they can get. The alcohol is an irritant and greatly slows healing. Oral piercings are always the fastest to heal and the least likely to get infected - like Ruckus said, this is thanks to saliva.

In other news, migraines do indeed much suck. Heat headaches are also horrible. Why oh why must it nearly be summer?!

UNLESS the wound is viral. "Kanker Sores" are viral infections. They are, in science talk, Herpes. But they're not the kind that your school tells you about. They're not Herpes simplex C. Harmless ones that do nothing other than sting painfully. If you have such viral infections, you DO deliberately want an alcoholic mouthwash. Listerine works wonders...but it burns like no other.

Notice the part where I said that's why with oral piercings are recommended to not have it? That's what I was referring to when I said the alcohol is an irritant. Piercings, not wounds in general. I admit I kinda got off topic, but that's okay.
