What I was told with the power outlet, is that standard computers that each of us run use about 80 times as much energy than was described in the article. The only difference is that the energy used in computers is much more spread out and dispersed. The duration of their run time, and knowing that computers suck energy anyways, makes this seem more believable.
Just think. A needlepoint is a small small area. Certainly it seems impossible for such an amount of energy to exist in that small of a space, but you need to understand at how much energy is spread through the workings of a computer. Try to imagine just how much energy is used in a needlepoint area of your processor. Or the wires connecting your DVD drive to the motherboard. Just a needlepoints worth. Compress all of that the the compact size, I'm sure it would get close.
