As much as we love our nice little world of Guild Wars, almost every game has some aspect that drives us bonkers. I figure this is the place to discuss them.

Lynn has heard me complain more and more about mine lately, because it is starting to make it hard for me to even want to log onto Guild wars anymore. Given I have beaten all the normal and elite areas of the game, I have been wanting to move on to some of the hardest areas in the game and do the quests and such that are featured there. They seem like a fun challenge.

The downside is that you can usually only play them with other humans. This fact alone isn't what bothers me about GW, but its the people you meet trying to do them. I love this guild and enjoy acting silly in it, but I'm appreciative of all the people here and how open minded they are to just having fun. But in PUGS, well, they are beginning to really irk me. I can understand the allure of cookie cutter builds and strategies, it gets you through the quest, and that's all well and good, but to people like me, that isn't the fun part about the game. The fun part is the thinking on the spot and playing with your build and testing YOUR abilities against the enemies. Yet in PUGS you won't even get picked up if you don't have experience in an area, and an exact build and the exact strategy down pat to do it. I just find it sad that a game specializing in creativity. is becoming a formulated process.

I know I joke about dragging people from the Guild with me, but I dont like the idea of forcing people to do things they don't want to in a game, so I find I am stuck with horrible PUGS that forget what playing a game is about and approach this like a job.

Anywho, I figured since we all go on about how much we love Guild Wars all the time, it was time to introduce those things that make us get annoyed with it as well. It's always important to take the bad with the good. bluetongue.gif

(And yes, I realize this is a similar argument to Cspace's bluetongue.gif I just figured I would make it an open forum to ALL things about Guildwars you don't like [ex. Not enough missions, etc.] And just to be clear, I'm not arguing for any class in particular, this behavior happens for all classes sadly enough. sad.gif )

As an Ele, I thrive in PUGs. I can't say they bother me at all, but my problem is that they seem to be the only way you can get it done, especially in hard mode. That's what bothers me.

Well, it wasn't so much being wanted for a PUG for me, so much as people want to play by one strategy all the time and never just adhoc it.

But yeah, they should update the AI, since sometimes HM can be a pain without other humans.

It's not the AI, it just that the monsters are so strong, they slaughter any group they go against that doesn't use the PUG tricks.

Eugh yeah. I generally stay away from pugs. If there isnt anyone else online in the guild that wants to do something, then i'll just try and do it myself with H/H. I like the challenege anyway.

Hmm, no. I think it's been shown pretty well that a well-balanced team can accomplish most HM tasks without having to resort to those PUG tricks, provided it's made up of experienced players (and a few heroes, usually). An AI upgrade would be fairly welcome, especially if they also increased the HM henchies skillset to bring them more in line with a hero or player.

PUGs annoy me a lot too, I almost never use them. I mostly only do HM stuff when guildies want a hand with them, so I can usually get away with that. Sooner or later that's likely to prove more of a problem though. bluetongue.gif

Hmm... It hasn't been as bad to me recently, but something that has always annoyed me about the game is that skill balances are based exclusively around PvP. PvP seems to be the favourite child of ANet, leaving us PvE people with nerfed builds for no real reason. I'm not suggesting that skill balances should apply to only one side and not the other, you'd very quickly end up with two totally different games and it would be even harder to start out in PvP. It's just a bit frustrating. PvE-only skills was most likely an attempt to make up for this slightly, but what you end up with is the usual list of skills and then these overpowered gimmicky skills that aren't linked to your attributes and don't really have a lot of relation with the rest of your build. They're a lot of fun to use, but it probably wasn't the best way to incorporate something of that nature.

It's true, the cookie cutter build PUGs aren't the only way to go. I myself doubted a group of three Rangers, two monk heroes, a nuker, a Necro hero, and a Dervish (myself) could successfully complete Gate of Madness. We not only finished that mission with ease, but also got Masters against Abaddon (With the substitution of one of the rangers for a human monk).

Groups with lots of rangers can be a bit iffy sometimes, hehe. bluetongue.gif

How many did we have for that HM THK attempt... 4, 5?

Lynn, Rylkie, Cspace, Draggy... I think that was all.

I'm referring to Hard Mode Foundry and other similar places where you get swarmed by two or three groups at a time. bluetongue.gif

Hehehe. Yeah, that was insane, especially given Draggy used that R/Me Dagger wielding tank build I made for him. bluetongue.gif

We almost made it though... Would have if that Ranger jade boss didn't spawn, that thing was impossible to kill with no stance removal and so many physical attackers. bluetongue.gif

By the way, I'm thinking when I get my 10th max title I might get a rainbow phoenix and call it Peeve. That way I can talk about my pet, Peeve.

When they pull with a shortbow.
When the Tank gets scared and runs away.
When the healer is texting instead of healing.

When we get cornered by a tanking hard mode Ranger boss spamming Whirling Defense... while 8 of us are pushed up against a corner ledge next to him...and our 4 Rangers are speedily spamming attacks on him...not noticing the 10+ damage we're all taking per round. bluetongue.gif Oh wait, that one was already said. grnwink.gif
