Well it's hard to know exactly how much was known, but they hardly seemed altruistic enough to be preventing it if they didn't think it would involve them. Also some random crazy guy back in post-searing Ascalon knew about it, so you'd have to figure an extremely advanced race of powerful mages would know at least their fair share of the prophecy. They'd obviously been guarding the Ring of Fire Isles for a while given the level of fortification, and they were serious enough about it that I'm sure they'd have attempted to find out all they could.

It also could be he was aiding without his knowledge, as we were for pretty much the second half of the game >_<. For that matter, I think even the white mantle were unwitting participants in the -big- picture.
