They may be considered correct, but in actuality they aren't. Maille is the only true and correct term from a historical point of view. This has been beaten into my head by the umpteen archaeologists and historians I've run across in reenactment groups.

Back onto decorative maille: as I said, the most decorative I've seen is edging done with gold rings. Almost all decoration went on surcoats, shields and banners. Going to a proper convention, I would be absolutely shocked if there was anything more than edging on anyone's maille. It was never, ever made to be decorative. It was made to be practical.
