Hmm... tough one when you don't remember calories clearly >_<.

If I recall, calories have to do with the amount of heat/energy it takes to raise a certain amount of water a certain increment of temperature (numbers and unit names come to mind, but I'm really fuzzy on this). If so, then yes, as heating food adds energy to it, which it can then give off.

Nutritionally speaking... eh, I'd go with no. Heat can increase the speed of reactions in the body, and perhaps increase the amount of energy/materials "extracted" from the food, but it's already heat, it's not otherwise useful in the body, and in some cases can be considered waste.

We actually learned this is my high energy astronomy class. It comes from the fact that any form of energy radiates. I don't profess to see the exact mechanism in this example, but it DOES add energy to the system, and energy is just another form of mass, so thats my take on this example. But the answer is yes, warm food does add calories.

I know Mullerian its that they look like a fellow dangerous to eat species of animal. I know Monarch butterflies are poisonous, so I know its either that the Viceroy is poisonous too, or just mimicing the poisonous Monarch.

I've heard that the Viceroy is edible, but the Monarch is not. The Viceroy thrives off of the Monarch's reputation among predators.

Rylkan came up with the answer I was looking for. I'm doubting myself though... and it's hard to confirm with such a widespread "fact". We'll go with it, I believe Dr. Jenkins told us this (with the accompanying pictures of vomiting blue jays from the journal article [poor birds >_<]) in the first half of ecology lecture. Once again I wish I'd written that citation down.

(Oh, if you know ahead of time, avoid classes that are "team taught", if that means you get half the semester with one guy, then the second half with another guy who has a completely different teaching style. It's NOT cool. Exposure to different styles through different classes is sufficient, even if it is the first guy's first semester.)
