Ziggy Lupus returns from the inner part of the town. "I have yet to see anyone," he announces to no one in particular. Ziggy sits down away from everyone else to think and then looks around at the other people. Ziggy slowly gets up and approaches Aether and sits down a few feet away from him. "Hello. You missed a bit of excitement," Ziggy says with a slight grin.

The two guards discuss matters quietly for about half a minute, then one enters the town with his trusty halberd. The other remains behind for a moment to speak to the newcomer wearing the brown cloak.

"Hail, traveler! You're free to take refuge here, and when the darkness passes you can ride with us to Aderon. I think we have a horse to spare for the journey home."

Rahvus nodded in appreciation to the guards before moving on through into the city. That had gone better than even he had expected. He wouldn't have thought security on the fortress would be so lax, especially after being attacked by a creature of the undead. Things such as that usually caused one to be suspicious of everyone, unless one was very well educated about the living dead. And few were, at least in this part of the world.

His gaze swept about the first square of the city as he entered. There were no citizens; at least, not that he thought actually lived in the cities. The small handful of people that were present looked far more of the adventurous nomad sort by their mismatched appearance and traveling clothes. A few lounged under a tree talking quietly. A tree? It was odd to see trees in Maldenar -- at least, not in these poorer districts. The more well-off could usually afford to have a few plants of that sort in their homes, but he had thought that in recent times there hadn't even been any wealthy people. The last time he had been there, it was filled with nothing but the scum of the earth -- shady merchants and thieves, and the unfortunate citizens unable to leave.

But he had had enough of wondering at the oddities of trees in deserts. He had a job to do.

"I can tell," Aether replied to Ziggy. "What happened out there, anyway?"

Xmadole leans forward, listening intently.

Ziggy glaces at the elf who seems to be eavesdropping. He looks back to Aether.
"An undead creature in armor called a wight wandered toward us. One of the guards killed it, if you can use such terms, pretty easily," Ziggy answers. "Didn't seem to be any more, and the guards decided to let everyone in so we wouldn't distract them." Ziggy pauses and grins. "I suppose they don't think we could cause much damage in an abandoned village."
Ziggy slowly rises to his feet. He says, "I'm sorry, but I'm going to go back around Maldenar to see if I missed anything earlier. I'll probably be back soon. Bye."
Ziggy grabs his mechanical horse and walks away from Aether.

Aether nodded. An undead creature? He thought. Obviously I haven't had the misfortune to meet one in my travels of the desert.
After Ziggy left, Aether thought that he should explore too. He got up, glad that his legs were still working, and walked around the elf.

Reikin feels a powerful surge go through the city.

An earthquake?

The idea seemed so farfetched that he examined the city. He notices a large stone golem outside the city walls.

Bah! As if there wasn't enough mystery surrounding this city already...

He pulls out his sword, quickly changes it into a shotgun and runs out of the city walls to confront it.

As Aether walks around the town, he feels a tremor running through the city, but he generally ignores it. Probably natural causes, he reasoned. But soon, he heard gunshots being fired and his curiosity gets the better of him. He starts running towards the town's entrance.
