Firemaking Guide
By Hyperfried

Firemaking is a very simple skill, devoted to the sole purpose of lighting a fire. It is mostly used for cooking things when a range is not near, either for eating and restoring health or for selling.

To light a fire, gather a tinderbox and hatchet. Cut a tree. You will get a pile of logs. Drop your logs. Use your tinderbox on the logs. That’s how you light a fire! Now, sometimes lighting a fire doesn’t work. Depending on your level, it can take multiple tries to get right. Here is a picture of myself, lighting a fire:

As you light more fires, you will advance in firemaking levels. Here is a picture of myself gaining a level:

As your fires burns, it will eventually burn out, and turn into ashes, as seen here:

Here are a few tips for firemaking:

  • Always bring a sleeping bag. Firemaking increases fatigue, and after a while you won’t get more experience.

  • Bring a friend of two once in a while. It makes the experience better if you’re firemaking with a buddy.

  • Don't forget to bring the essentials: hatchet and tinderbox.

  • Firemake around places where there are a lot of trees. If you run out of logs, you've got a ton just waiting for you right next to you!

Another great thing about firemaking is the fact that you can also do it for fun! A lot of people enjoy making fireart. Usually, you make fires in a shape of a word or... thing (heh) that can be seen on your world map. Here is myself, saying a little hello:

I can confirm that you do NOT stop failing at 30. I'm 41 and I fail every once and a while (not often, but I do)

As for XP, I've looked into it, and I can't find any steady way to measure.

At the moment, I find that the amount of exp you get with each successful fire goes up by 2 each lvl. For example; lvl 58 = 126 exp, lvl 59 =128 exp and lvl 60 = 130 exp. As far as I know, this seems to be constant. Does that help?

EDIT: Dang, my theory doesn't work. Some lvls are dead set on an increase on 2, and some lvls increase 1-2 exp. I'd now say that there is a common increase of 2, e.g lvl 61 = 132 exp, but there might be a slight difference (meaning I sometimes get 131 exp at lvl 61 instead of 132 exp).

My theory was so good aswell bluetongue.gif

(Wibble n Spike Firemaking Theory)

firemaking level 1-10 = fire lasts 1 minute
11 - 20 = 2 mins
21-30 = 3 mins
31 - 40 = 4 mins
41 = 50 = 4 1/2 minutes
51-60 = 5 mins
61-70 = 6 mins
71-80 = 7 mins
81-99 = 10 mins

(NOT CONFIRMED. WE TRIED THE LEVEL 1-56 theory it worked. but higher levels not confired cuz we arent that high pyros lol)

A good place to train is the right east of the road to the wizards's tower i believe. There are practily 50 trees i think. i noticed that hyperfried didn't have any places to train and well that's a suggestion.

Another good place to train is east of draynor, near where the air rune spawns. i train my woodcut there. you may also want to put in a bit on how the draynor manor trees slap you silly if you do anyhting to them. i beleve its 7hp damage no mater what armor you have.

It *does* go up as you level, but it's still random. The increase isn't much, but it's definately noticable.

Here's the word from God Of End, who's currently lvl 98 firemaking:

Exp amount at each lvl:
1 26.75
.
.
.
[Original post updated, so I'll take out this long list to keep the crolling to a minimum grnwink.gif]
.
.
.
99 198.25

Hope that helps,

--Rabk
