Look guys, the area is trashed but will recover. I'm fine, no damage to the house, except the fence is trashed.
The refineries are fine, as are the oil rigs. The news is full of it. So you can expect gas prices to go down soon.

The Weather channel is full of {expletive hax0rd by Cspace}, we only had like... a 10ft surge. Galveston, last I heard , the surge might have gone over the 16ft seawall. Hell if I know. We're still on curfew, and the internet is our only source of news since cable got knocked out.
Right now, we've set up a generator(dad got lucky and snagged a 8Kw one for $600), and we're sitting in our only airconditioned room watching Schindler's list.

New photobucket acount we made for the family. There's pics in it if you're interested.

As it stands, we only have phone/DSL. Although I have no idea how long that'll last since, from what we can see, the city infrastructure suffered massive damage.

Tomorrow, I'm going to see how the rest o the town made out.

are you all okay? I'm worried because practically half of Galveston island (about 24,000 people) stayed. It was underwater before the hurricane even made landfall..and the whole island is entirely flat

I heard it breached that seawall protecting houston, too

Most of our gas stations here have run out of gas.. It's kinda scary.. If we get any, it's way over 4 dollars.. We must have gotten a lot of it directly from the refineries there (I really hope they're still intact, too, or we're not going anywhere lol..).

Galveston is fine, the people there generally know if they're safe from a storm or not.
Houston has no seawall. In fact, houston if quite a ways inland. Most of the footage that the weatherchannel put out going "WE R AT HOUUSTON AND IT R RAIN LOLOL" were in small costal communities like Kemah.

Let me say this again, don't trust the news. We're much, much better than they say we are.

Not too many people know what Galveston is really like atm. And public officials never give you the straight story, because of the possibility of panicking people.

But from what I've seen today, most of my town is underwater because of rain, and surge (most of which is gone). The surge went over the 16ft seawall in galveston.
More bad news? I just found out that galveston has many, many new residents who have never been through a hurricane. I had no clue about this.
I won't go into details because I don't know any bluetongue.gif, but from what we're thinking, most of galveston is destroyed. Hell, I just heard that UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch) won't get power for a week or two, and that's first on their priority list. I'm even hearing that some places in the Houston area might be out of power for a month.

bbl, going for a ride.

When I turn 21, I'm buying a keg of the cheapest beer ever, growing a mullet, and blasting this during a hurricane.

My brother beat you to it. When Katrina hit, he drove around our Civic Center / refugee aid housing and blared that song along with like, 3 of his friends.

It. Was. Amazing.
