This is my new baby, Neko ^_^ (I'm sure some of you will recognize the word, and yes, I'm that uncreative when it comes to naming things, that's why Chilly just kept the name she came with and Raja is just corrupted from rojo because he's red bluetongue.gif. We debated over names for Willow for two or three weeks, and Cinnamon looks like, well, cinnamon.) [Haha, I explained her name to my mom and she says we need to have several cats all named in similar fashion.]

She's almost 10 weeks old, and she settled in basically as soon as she was put in my hands yesterday (before we even came home). She just looks at Cinnamon all wide-eyed innocent while Cinnamon is sitting there hissing and growling at her. Willow's more on the fence, but I think she's more put out that there's someone new for me to pay attention to (so she's gotten extra petting today). She almost swatted Neko once, but thought better of it. I'm hoping she'll come around soon, 'cause I think the two of them would do well together. So far she's proven all the advice on feeding kittens (she's a little pig) and she thinks fingers and this cheap little felt mouse are the most awesome toys. She took to the bean cat right away, and sometimes she plays with it. I think she's a little disappointed it doesn't fight back though. Apparently she sleeps through the night, which surprised me. She was waiting in her box for me to wake up (I'd put it in the bed), and then she was ready to chew on my fingers. I may actually get a cat that sleeps in the bed again.

She's so damned cute. I knew I missed having a kitten, but I forgot how much, and I think I'm old enough [and knowledgeable enough] to appreciate it more this time (last time I was about 10). When she's settling in to sleep and I'm holding her she scoots up to get kisses and snuggle with my face, looks like I'm mom to two kitties now (Cinnamon considers me a high ranking servant).

(If anyone wants to complain about how young she is or how I've already introduced the animals, let's just say I {expletive ninja'd by Cspace}ing well know what I'm doing, accepted wisdom is just that, not set in stone. Which is to say someone already got onto me for it, funny who it was too, and the 6 or so people I talked to about her today from whom I'd (almost) take it didn't say a word. Not to mention her history is atypical, she hasn't nursed for almost 7 weeks (she was bottle fed because she quit nursing due to a bad eye infection), and so she's extra socialized, and it's not like I just locked them in a room together, it was majorly controlled introduction and will continue to be until the resident animals at least accept her as something that's ignorable. And, Some animals need time to settle in, true (Willow sure did), and some don't.)

Whenever I see "Neko" spelled out I automatically think of this Neko. I have to hear it to recognize it as the Japanese word for "cat." bluetongue.gif

She's cute!

I was just awakened by tiny needles to the face. "Are you awake yet mommy?" Can't say it's the most pleasant, but it's better than that awful "you're not paying attention to me" meowing (and it's 4 hours later than that usually occurs), and it is kind of cute.

Or what the oldest cat does now. . . she thinks the first time I roll over I'm getting up -- never mind that I just got in bed two minutes ago -- so she starts meowing and it's impossible to stop her without getting up. She's not Siamese, but she almost has the voice, and she talks a lot more now.

Yeah. Though I'm not at home anymore, I still want the comfort of having a cat when I come home.
