Now, I was prepared to spend $100 on a case. Now, I believe this might be worth the extra $60. Thoughts?

Oh, and for those of you that are confused. I'm building a computer in a few months, and I might do this for a case.

It's cool. but you need to think this through. Where will you put your tower? My desk has a little slot for towers, and obviously is too thin to accommodate an aquarium. Also, what if something goes wrong? Idk what, but it's your job to think of one.

Well, from my experience with aquaria (with fish in them bluetongue.gif) there's always a very real possibility of breakage from any number of sources internal and external, like kicking/running into it or something falling into the side of it, or sitting on an uneven surface (for this you can put a thin sheet of that dense but flexible packing foam stuff). Or you might get a bad seal and get a leak either from the factory (see below) or by the things that can cause breakage; check for leaks before use outside before you put the oil in by filling with water and letting it sit somewhere where it will be obvious that the water is from the tank. Obviously a lot of the other sources of "leakage" in a typical aquarium (e.g. fish splashing it out, filter spraying in the wrong direction, etc.) and breakage (some fish and especially one particular kind of shrimp are capable of cracking thin glass) don't apply.

As for the computer, I don't have a clue really >_<.

My desk has a little slot too. but it's mATX sized. So, as it is I already can't put my tower in it.
As for location, I'm thinking about placing it behind my monitor, against the wall. I need to take some measurements first though.

Well Zoo, I never thought about checking for leaks beforehand. I'll make sure to do that. But as for breakage... I should be fine. I don't plan on using any filters, pumps, or anything. The aquarium is just decoration and storage for the mineral oil.
And if it did spring a leak for whatever reason... oh well. It'll be fine, but 'll need to do a major cleanup.

The major problems I see, is if I buy a cheap aquarium and a seal dies, or a fan might die.
And since fans are pointless, it's no big deal.

I'm also considering adding a radiator to it, but I dunno. This is something I'll be doing months from now if it happens.

Aquaria are pretty cheap to begin with. I've had several of the 10 gallon size from wal-mart for various purposes and the only problem I had was the rodents breaking the seal by chewing bluetongue.gif. I think they've changed their brand though. If the price hasn't gone up at least $5 (from $10) I would warn against it. If you can get an "All Glass" brand one you can be pretty sure it'll hold up, and whatever you find in the pet store should be fine too.

And I was going to reemphasize all the things that can break it from the outside, but if it's behind the monitor it should be cool bluetongue.gif.

Well, as far as outside breakage. I don't see anything happening to it. I don't live with my mom anymore, so I don't have to tolerate other peoples Children destroying my stuff.

Unless one of the cats grows diamond claws and cuts out the glass.

Edit: I'll probably get an all glass aquarium for looks.

All-Glass is a brand name bluetongue.gif, though it seems they've changed it to the more sensible Aqueon, since most aquaria are "all glass": http://www.aqueonpro...d-aquariums.htm

Oh, for a minute you had me thinking that there are some extremely cheap acrylic or Plexiglas aquariums.

It would be way awesome if you could have fish swim around in the aquarium with your computer... XD

I still highly recommend you don't, its not worth the hassle, and you can get much better cooling for cheaper, for example my £14 Freezer 7 Pro gets an idle temp of 32-35 degrees on my E6600 @ 3GHZ.

To sum it up, all you need a is a good case with good airflow.

I'm planning on buying an E8500 and overclocking the hell out of it. Then again, I might end up getting a new Core i7 and a totally different video card since this will be months from now.
I'd go with normal water cooling since it's just as effective... but it'll take up way more space, be more expensive, and it'll be loud. Screw that.

Also, this thing will be completely silent until I get a radiator, and even with that it'll only be a small, quiet, submerged pump.
