1st April 2009 - Glorious Memories

When you've settled all the conflicts you can find, and brought together warring nations across the northern seas, it's time to kick back and have a party, right?

If only it were that simple. Peace between sovereign states is one thing, but Manni the Reveller still can't bring everyone together for Chieftain Brundt's birthday feast.

See old friends in new ways as you delve into the mysteries of the past, and help them resolve the problems of the present. To save the chieftain’s birthday celebrations you’ll have to uncover the secrets they can’t remember, and confront a monster they want to forget.

Glorious Memories is my first quest and it has been a real joy to write and develop. I know a lot of you are big fans of the Fremennik peoples (so am I), and I hope that you have as much fun as I did uncovering the history of these fascinating characters.

Mod Hew
RuneScape Content Developer

------------------------------

Where to start Glorious Memories:
Speak to Manni the Reveller in the longhall in Rellekka.

Requirements to begin Glorious Memories:
Level 57 Magic
Level 50 Agility
Level 43 Herblore
Level 41 Hunter
Must have completed Royal Trouble
Must have completed The Fremennik Isles
Must have completed Mountain Daughter
You should be able to defeat a level 156 opponent who attacks in a variety of ways, and survive in a multi-way combat area with foes of around level 90

------------------------------

In Other News...

The logic governing the behavior of items kept on death has been fixed for certain circumstances involving stacks of items, such as coins. If in doubt about what is at risk, double check your Items Kept on Death interface.

There is a new button on the bank interface to allow you to set your PIN more easily, if you don't already have one.

It should now take you less time to switch your prayers on and off, due to code shuffling.

If the cabbages are annoying you, just turn Accept Aid off.

The following small fixes and adjustments have now been made to the game. If you spot any further bugs in-game, please use the Bug Report feature ('Submit a Bug Report' under the 'Help' drop-down menu of the website).

Graphical

* Tortoises will no longer block you when you’re walking causing you to get stuck.
* Various standing torches will no longer let you stand in them.
* Fixed some animations on a few desert NPC's that didn't seem to have any.
* Some of the water near the Musa Point docks has been updated to better fit in with the rest of the area.
* Players can no longer stand over a trapdoor in the Tower of Life.
* The Bandos tassets no longer look odd when playing certain animations.

Quests

* The yeti's knockback in the Myths of the White Lands quest wasn't always working correctly
* Removed some unnecessary messages from the Path of Glouphrie quest.
* All black knights will now correctly update the Falador Achievement Diary task.
* The Falador Party Room Achievement Diary task has been modified.
* The pendant that Zanik destroys will no longer reappear in certain circumstances.
* The quest list sorting feature now correctly handles members who become free players.

Minigames

* Updated some of the code to give you hints about where the penguins are located. Occasionally even we lose those sneaky penguins!

Miscellaneous

* Fixed a link from within the game to the website.
* Updated code to better handle your familiars when you log-in to various places like cutscenes.
* Removed some unnecessary code from the player-owned house script.
* The Prayer button icon now correctly updates on death, when you run out of Prayer points and when you're attacked with a dragon scimitar special attack, amongst other things.
* Changed code dealing with the quick Prayer selection in some areas of the game like Tears of Guthix.
* Seagulls have now been added to the Hunter skill and can be found along some coastlines. You'll need to wave your butterfly net in a gullible fashion to catch these birds.
* We’ve slightly increased the price on items that you have to gather from remote areas, so you should be able to make more profit from these.
* When closing a deposit box, it should now re-open the last thing you had open, like your inventory.
* Changed a phrase in the Quick Chat system.
* Adjusted the pre-purchase advice code where some items requirements were greater than you actually needed.
* Reworked the code dealing with crossbow pouches and the interface.
* You can now store kebbit bolts in the crossbow pouch.
* Woodcutting axes are now called hatchets to avoid confusion with other objects in the game.

Lawl, I know members kicking the cabbage from Draynor cabbage field to oo'glog (sp?) get to meet the king of cabbages so I kicked it from Draynor to Falador to the Monk Monastery to the Barbarian Village and finally to Varrock (my goal). Nothing happened but was fun to do and although was a little frustrating (people kicking despite me asking them not to) it was worth it. I set a goal and completed said goal.

Silly goals count too. grnwink.gif

This Week's Updates - FAQ

This sticky has been created in response to the most commonly asked questions regarding this week's updates.

Whilst we continue to gather feedback, we will add any other frequently asked questions regarding this update to this thread.

Be sure to come back regularly!

"When will the bouncing cabbages be removed?"

They will be removed with next week's update, so if you have yet to find Brassica Prime and want to meet the Daddy of all cabbages, you better get moving!

"I really enjoyed Glorious Memories, but I don't think that it should have been classified as a "Master" quest!"

The following was written by Mod Hew, the Developer of the quest:

"With regards to classifying new quests, the difficulty category is chosen based on the skill and combat requirements of the current quest and those of its prerequisites.

When we plan the requirements for a new quest we choose which skills will be needed and try and make sure that the quest is a reasonable step up from those before it, and in some cases that it’s a fair step down from the ones you might like to do afterwards.

If you look back down the chain, Glorious Memories has a lot of prerequisites: eleven quests, particular levels in twelve skills including four at 50 or more... Because the quest itself is all about the story I can understand that some of you didn’t feel that it was dangerous, but you wouldn’t have got through it without the skills we asked for and the main required quests were important to the story.

Of course, a lot of you already meet the requirements and that’s great, but I think you’re underestimating how much you’ve accomplished to get there. Things often look easy when you’ve already done them.

A lot of you greatly exceed the requirements, and if you like stories I hope it’s a quest that you still enjoy even if it isn’t promising to give you a free teleport to Lumbridge (Falador, or Camelot) at every turn A lot of players don’t meet the requirements – I know, I did the research, checked the stats and a while ago was talking to some on World 2 – so this is something for them to enjoy later.

The RuneScape Content team is always working on a variety of things, so if this wasn’t the update for you then I’m sorry, but another thing in the pipeline might be yours."

"What do I get if I try and catch a seagull?"

Why don't you try it and find out for yourself? You may be pleasantly surprised! bluetongue.gif

"Where has the "Rest" button gone?!"

Don't worry, it will be back...with a use! ^_^

"Why haven't you answered all of my questions regarding Bounty Hunter in this FAQ?!"

This is because the new Bounty Hunter wasn't released this week!:P
