This week's update concerns Summoning and hairstyles: better usability, more pets and the return of the fringe.

You have provided us with so many ideas to improve the Summoning skill that we were spoilt for choice, and our wish list of improvements is getting longer and longer, but for now we have decided on the following improvements.

Firstly, we have raised the pet limit so that you can have twice as many pets as before. This seemingly simple change led to a major background change, which will improve the stability of the code so you will experience fewer bugs in future. Secondly, you don’t need to wait until a familiar has disappeared to use the next pouch; now you click a handy button in the Summoning interface to replenish your familiar’s timer to 100% when it has dropped below two and a half minutes. So, if you use beasts of burden to help carry things around, you can now use this button to keep them going, as long as you have another pouch of the same type in your inventory. Additionally, we have made it much more straightforward to trade in your pouches and scrolls with Bogrog, the ogre in Gu’Tanoth.

We often receive comments about and suggestions for new hairstyles from players on the forums. In particular, we read players' complaints that there was once a female hairstyle with a fringe that got removed. We searched and searched, but could not find any indication that this was ever the case, so we scratched our heads for a while...and then created one! Enjoy your fringes, and perhaps you might like to pay a visit to Party Pete to try out a special new hairstyle designed for partying.

Lilies of the valley have also blossomed around RuneScape. These fragrant spring flowers will stay until the next game update to celebrate the start of May.

Last but not least, we would like to point you towards a new link in the quest journals. The QuestHelp system is now accessible directly from your quest journal, and you don’t even need to log into the website to access either a hint or a spoiler for a quest.

As you’ll notice, this set of updates isn’t as large as you might have hoped, for which we apologise. A project we were hoping to release this week was found to have bugs, and so has been delayed until next week. While we’re aware that these are relatively small fixes, we hope that you’ll appreciate them nonetheless.

The following small fixes and adjustments have now been made to the game. If you spot any further bugs in-game, please use the Bug Report feature ('Submit a Bug Report' under the 'Help' drop-down menu of the website).

Graphical

* Players should find they no longer clip with the hairdressing booth.
* Improved the position of the timer and other features in Pyramid Plunder, especially in HD.
* Fixed an issue that cropped up when performing one emote after another, in which the second one wasn't animated correctly.
* A render issue was fixed with another female clothing option from the Makeover Mage.

Quests

* Sir Prysin's chat is now clearer if you've lost Silverlight and shouldn't talk about Darklight instead, which was even more confusing when you were on a free world.
* Adjusted the checks to see if you can purchase another Helm of Neitiznot if you'd lost it.

Miscellaneous

* The Makeover Mage has been given a quick (right-click) option to give yourself a bit of a sprucing.
* The Hairdresser's chat has been made less confusing.
* A grammatical error has been expunged from the examine option for the evil tree sapling.
* A couple of items have been removed from the player stock of the Embalmer’s shop as they were untradeable.
* Stopped a sound effect looping while in Tarn's Lair.
* Reeso in Rellekka will correctly greet you by your Fremennik name, if appropriate.
* Ensured that some songs are played appropriately in the Dorgeshuun area.
* When using the Makeover Mage, females had the option to wear 'shorts', but this was actually a skirt. This has now been corrected.
* The code for the Makeover Mage and his/her interfaces have been significantly reworked and improved.

"Why didn't you make the afro a hairstyle, rather than a wig?"

Unfortunately, if we make a hairstyle too big, it causes tons of glitches when worn with headgear. This is due to the way hairstyles render with hats and tiaras.

Due to the demand of wanting your own afro, we decided that adding it as a wig would be the best solution.

"I really want to look like Party Pete, could Patchy sew my party hat on to an afro?"

Due to the huge amount of combinations, it would be incredibly difficult. However, if there is a consensus on what colour wig you would want sewn on to your partyhat, then we will certainly consider it.

I believe that there is a thread regarding this in the Recent Updates forum... grnwink.gif

"I really like the lilies, can I keep them forever?"

I'm afraid not, they will be removed with the next game update. However, don't fret, they will be reappearing again next year. TheSmile.gif

"Does the pet increase mean that I can have more than one God Bird now?"

No, not this time, the rules for pet ownership remain the same as they did before. This means that you are unable to have more than one dog, God bird or multiple dragons etc.

The update simply increases the maximum number of unique pets you can tame at once relative to your Summoning level.

There are considerably more unique pets in the game than a player was able to simultaneously own before this update, even at 99 Summoning. This update was introduced simply to allow players to have more unique pets, and to prevent a scenario where a player would be forced to release a beloved and faithful canine companion in favour of a rarer pet they happened to obtain.

Howdy folks!

We love spending time in RuneScape with players, it's a great way to get involved with the community and be a presence in the game.

In the past we have used this time just to do fun things like silly games, or playing minigames with people. This is all well and good and we still want to do this on occassion.

However, a lot of people gave us feedback that they want J-Mods to do more than this. They want J-Mods to be there to help them with problems, to give them advice, and generally support them more. Rather than just being "buddies".

I'd really like to hear your thoughts on how you'd like us to use this "in-game" time.

Maybe you feel J-Mods should be on hand when new updates come out, or they should be around major Quest areas to help with quests.

Maybe you'd like to be able to chat to a J-Mod face to face about something relating to your account, your billing or similar.

Or, maybe you think J-Mods should just turn into massive dragons and give you something fun to do.

Please let us know about any ideas you may have.

Cheers,

~ MMH ~

One of my favorite JMod stories has to be the JMod that was walking around the Varrock bank vault looking for their contact lens biglaugh.gif Me like sense of humor.
