Hey everyone. Sorry for my long hiatus (I have been so busy in school it's crazy!). Anyhow, I would like to present you with some cool things that I have found in my wandering. I am not sure if any of you remember, but I am the font guy. I LOVE devising different types of fonts, as well as create symbols and such with the font creating program on my comp. When I was searching on the net one day, I thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if I could get that font from Lord of The Rings?" So, I searched the web for a font I could download. Low and behold, there it was! In fact, learning "Elvish" is only half of learning Elvish! First, you must learn to write in their style! So, if you are interested in looking at some of their letters, there is a great site which I will provide in which it explains a little bit about the types and such. In fact, there are several types of the elvish font, Quenya, or high elvish, Sindarin, or Low/Gray Elvish, and several others. Please check these out and install them on your comps, they are so cool! I have already done so, and am busy learning the basics, as well as writing a little. Here is an example of what I have written:

the name of the elvish written language is Tengwar. There are many different types of elvish (quenya, sindarin, noldor etc.) but they are all written with those same symbols. I am currently studying quenya. There is a site where you can download the entire elvish dictionary (any language) it's ardalambion It also has links to sites with lots of fonts. Also, if you learn any language like that, and know how to write them (english characters) you can simply go to yatt as they have a free and thorough transcribing tool. please note that you have to write the actual elvish word.

glad i could help!

-also, isn't that the tengwar cursive font? Some of the symbols differ from how they are supposed to read, i have had problems with that. I feel it's best to just use the regular stuff.

btw...

if u guys wanna talk elvish stuff, just IM me, but i only have msn (sorry) my sn is mew40k@hotmail.com. (don't laugh, it was made like, a thousand years ago!!)

Thanks for the info man, I do know a little about the tengwar, and I am also studying it. But yes, as you could read, I am not too good at making the proper characters. Anyhow, thanks for all the great links!

hmm, I'm not sure what that's about. However, I find it much easier to use an elvish transcriber than to use fonts like that. To use the fonts, you'd have to memorize a whole new keymap, but if you transcribe, you just use the phonetic spelling, and the transcriber translates it into elvish script.

If you're interested in a transcriber, the one I use (which is FREEEEE) is YaTT (yet another tengwar tool).

YaTT can be downloaded for FREE here. You DO have to make an account with them, but it doesn't cost anything. In fact, I wonder if they have a newer version out? Mine might be out-of-date, lol...
