I was wondering if there was a free site I could go to that would tell me if I have like a virus, like a trojan, in my computer or anything and possibly delete it... 1zhelp.gif

www.sarc.com

Click on "Free Online Virus and Security Check" under "Virus Definitions."

Also, get Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search-&-Destroy. These 2, combined with a decent virus scanner (I have Norton AntiVirus 2003), will help you a lot.

Ad-Aware will remove the usually-but-not-always-harmless "spyware" or "scumware" that gets installed on your computer without you knowing. It usually just tracks what sites you visit, but it can do plenty more. So, with Ad-Aware, you can remove it, protect your privacy (including passwords), and speed up your computer a bit.

SpyBot is like Ad-Aware, to a point. They find similar things, but I've had times where one of them catches something the other missed. Also, if you turn on Advanced Mode, SpyBot has some nifty features that I'm not going to detail. They are quite nice though biglaugh.gif

Also, update when you can. Every week, I get the newest virus definitions for Norton, the newest spyware definitions for Ad-Aware (look on their website, it may be tricky to find), and completely update SpyBot (using the "Check for Updates" feature and getting new Immunizations). It helps more than you know TheSmile.gif

Oh, and make sure your family knows what they're doing. Tomorrow I get the joy of dismantling mom's computer and hooking the hard drive up to mine, because my idiot dad got a virus on there that's not letting Windows load screama.gif Trust me on this one, having to fix a major virus - sometimes even having to erase your hard drive and start from scratch - simply sucks. I've done it more than once. More than 5 times, actually, and approaching 10.
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.
