My most sincere apologies, friends...

About a week and a half ago, my daughter got hold of my keyboard and bent/busted some of the pins as well... LOL! I am SO sorry I haven't been here.

I had no money to replace the darn thing, so I was lurking helplessly for some time. *growls under breath* I hope you all aren't too p'od. I went as fast as I possibly could bringing in a replacement.

Getting back into the swing of RS alone is gonna be tough now...I also have a new pet, which is a new time demand, I finally got my hamster!!! LOL Yes, call me weirder, but I have a real affinity towards rodents, they're my favorite of all pets. So, along with any other problems my friends here bring to me, I can also help with potty training your rat! *lol*

Anyway, I best be off to read all those messages I've been wanting to respond to! Also, I will probably be responding to some that are like SOOOOO last week, 'cuz dammit, they're new to me! bluetongue.gif

Happy to be back!

Hey! TheSmile.gif Thanks for the warm reception, guys!

Hamsters are the shiznit, aren't they? thumb.gif I have a Black Bear breed, named her Layla. *hehe* She's already becoming tame. Not bad for a $20 hammy. Serpentfight, sorry to hear about your bad experience, for that reason I will only keep rodents to rodents in my household, no cat/rodent, dog/rodent. It's a sticky situation when you want to keep mixed species together. Extra care always has to be taken to keep all the animals safe, and it's a pain!

PS) My mom's hammy Kira is sick! sad.gif Any help in the form of good energy, prayers, etc. would be SO appreciated. I really want her to get well, and my mom is hurting over her right now.

I had a hamster, but we won't get another one due to the 2-year lifespan. Soon we'll get something though... prolly a guinea pig or sumsuch...

Phieta, hi! TheSmile.gif Actually, a healthy captive hamster lives about 2-4 years on average and it isn't uncommon for a happy hammy to live upwards of 5-6 years, crazy, huh? Sometimes things happen tho, and for no apparent reason they can meet an early demise. sad.gif That's the downside to owning a small animal, you never really know exactly what you're taking home and how it's all gonna work out, since each hamster so unique unto itself.

Layla is adjusting well, and Kira actually came out for a bite to eat tonight! TheSmile.gif I've been kinda "mother-hen" with Kira this evening, I'm up late watching her--eagerly awaiting the moment that she feels good enough to hop up on that wheel...Or gives me some indication that she is truly feeling better...

Guinea pigs are a great choice, they live a couple years longer, they rarely bite--and they're quite social. Whereas it's not advisable to house more than one Syrian (regular golden breed) hamster per cage, guinea pigs are comfy being around each other. My mom wants one, and I want her to get one. They are totally not skittish, hardly ever get ringy or weird, and are more "cuddly" than hammies. Financially they're also a plus, cheap to care for and maintain. (I love that about our rodent pals, too! *lol*)

I would say go for it!

I've never owned a hamster, my sister did, but she slept over her friend's house too long and it died. I've got a dog instead. A black labrador that is part german shepard. Guess what his name is?

Mickey! TheSmile.gif He is probably the wierdest dog, every time I start petting him he puts his head on the ground and sticks his butt in my face, lol. Then he'll go on his back and start kicking. He is NEVER not hungry. He does anything for London Broil meat, lol. A lot of times in spring when hes been inside real long, he'll go outside and start running at 40 miles per hour in a big circle. I have to dodge him or I'll get rammed, lol. rotate.gif He's one of kind.
