Well, here's the big question NASA and other space organizations are trying to answer. Was there ever life on Mars? As some of you know Europe (England I think) sent up the Mars rover Beagle 2(sp?) to gather samples. All atempts (sp?) contact it has failed and I believe it didn't make it. Basically here's the question, do you think there was life on Mars? Post your thoughts please.

yes i do believe there is life on mars, all its contents r rocks made from little rivers and such which indicate water a vital source for life and there is sum oxygen there also but mostly nitrogen...i have a artical from NASA saiyng tht they found a bacteria cell from mars which indicates life...

(if anyone wanted to know its 95% nitrogen 3% oxygen carbon dioxicide and other stuff...and the other 2% is hydrogen...i think)

You believe there is life on Mars currently? Or that there was life on Mars a long time ago? Also another factor, the tempature, do you believe anything could live there with that tempature?

Yes I bet there is life, since Mars does have polar ice caps and "old" river/ocean beds. I can tell you I do believe there is life on Mars, but it is probably a single celled organism and not as advanced as we are. thumb.gif There is probably fossils in the frozen ice also.

to obi: yes i do believe currently and in the past

to HH: i agree...except for the not as advanced as we r..there probably is sum where..we just cant see it..tht goes for other planets too biglaugh.gif

Serph, I can almost guarantee you there is no sapient life there currently, or ever. Also probably nothing that got much above single-cell organisms, there are no ruins or indications of any type of civilization in the past either. Oh and I know they thought at first they found single-cell life there, but if you actually remembered more of it (this is from a while ago) then you'd also know it was just a chemical reaction coming off the rocks. There has been no evidence as far as I know about if there has ever been life on mars. The one other time they thought they found something, it was part of the lens from an earlier probe that got destroyed biglaugh.gif .

interesting Gotenks...ill look into tht...but they never found any ruins on the surface...maybe once they get those green houses settled they can start digging to find things...or look around the glaciers...

I am inclined to agree that life has existed on mars in the past. I remember hearing something about an asteroid that fell near antarctica. They found it in 1996 and said that there were some fossilized bacteria cells on it. Also, that "face" is nothing more than a weird rock configuration that only looks like a face at that exact angle. I've seen photos of the same rook at other angles and it looks nothing like a face.

In addition to mars, some of Jupiters moons may also hold some life. Io, the one with all the volcanoes, has a very good probability, and another (the name escapes me) is one giant ocean covered in a layer of ice 12 miles thick. Both have extremely high probabilities of containing the most basic forms of life, but it is doubtful any sentient life other than that of our own will be found in this solar system.

Edit: That asteroid war from mars. When a meteor stuck it, the rock was expelled from mars's thin atmousphere and eventually made its way here.

i think there will be intelligent life on mars eventually but not for another few hundred thousand years because of evolution but give it time and maybe there will be.
(and why do all these asteroids land in antartica and nowhere else, do they steer towards it or somthing?, strange)

well in a few hundred thousand years the sun will explode and take out the nearest planets..including us and mars...at least i think its explode..might be implode...well i heard tht if it implodes itll cause a black hole...cause the rest of the planets to be sucked into it if they r still around it...they might go off track like a sling shot...and the force of the planets being pushed back from the inplode...just my 2 cents about the thing...

In a few hundred thousand years... nothing will happen. The sun still has a couple billion years more of life, and unless something amazing happens, Mars won't be habitable, or develop advanced life. It doesn't have enough of an atmosphere, or most of the things that make up life. And the Sun won't explode (like a Supernova) or even implode (For a long time). It doesn't have enough mass to become a Supernova, or even a white dwarf. It will most likely swell up into a Red Giant after it's lifetime is up, and it will remain like that for a huge amount of time. Red Giants don't give enough heat out to keep Earth or any of the other planets inhabitable though... Still that will probably be about 5 billion years away, so nothing to worry about for now.

well i could be wrong...it could turn out to be like wut happens to lava once it cools down..all hard and black with still sum red lava visable thru the cracks of the hardened lava...maybe freeze over after a while

well lets see they did see a dried up river bed

water is crucial for survival so there could have once been life on mars
right now they are trying to set up a station on the moon or sumthin so they can get there sooner. unless the aliens that once lived on mars didnt need water but i doubt that. or we may find them some day... will they be our enemies or our allies

will war come to us some day?

who knows for sure...

There will never be intelligent life on Mars, other than us when we colonize it. bluetongue.gif There is some sort of formula to calculate the probability of finding intelligent life in the universe. It's quite simple, but I'm too busy to type it in. Anyway, odds are slim.
