Has that happened to everyone that tried to join. All you have to do is hit back and try again like 3 or 4 times. Oh ya. I'm in.

Lol, my computer seems really bad on there... Guess that's what happens when you use the same account on a slow computer and another, hehe.

Anyway, glad to see that some are interested! If you are not on SETI@home right now, remember that it's a free download and you can help SETI scan the sky for E.T. grnwink.gif

To people joining:

It will ask for a password and you are more than likely not registered. Hit the link near the bottom of the joining form. Hit "Get Password" or whatever it says. Enter your email and a password will be sent to you, just enter your email and copy and paste that password into there. Then your set to go!

You don't really have to look for anything, once your computer completes a data unit it will be sent back for further analysis. The... incident... that happened a few days ago was just an observation that was made, it is up to SETI to determine what it really is. bluetongue.gif

But yeah, if there is an interesting signal in your data unit, you should see some sort of pattern (or so they believe). TheSmile.gif

I have 512 ram and my computer is running fine with it on. You probably hae a lot of programs running down by your clock. I get like 13 - 15 before i end the usless ones. I have 4 with AIM, and SETI, McAffee, and my Sound running.

It usually takes me roughly 4-5 hours (once 3 hours and 45 minutes, but that was a freak) on a 2.8 GHz computer with 512 MB of RAM. It takes a while (a loooong time on my old comp, hehe), but it's crunching a lot of data that otherwise would tax multi-million dollar systems. In fact, SETI@home is the largest supercomputer in the world, consisting entirely of average PCs all around the world. TheSmile.gif

BTW, I've been receiving a few questions about what happens when a data unit is completed, and I'll truthfully say 'not much' ( bluetongue.gif ). If you set it to automatically connect to the internet, it will upload the completed unit and download a new one on its own. Otherwise you'll have a flashing icon in the taskbar that you would click on to connect. Either way, you send them the current data unit, and they send you a new one to work on. Here's the basic screen if you're interested:
