I too, am extremely against it. Flag burning is showing absolute hate, even loathing towards the country which flies that flag. It's just not right.

Most people that burn flags are inept hippies that blame the government for their own incompetence. I would approve of launching them into the sun.

You have proof?

I am completely against flag burning, except when it is mandatory. In cases where the person was burning a US flag, then they should be killed, and made a spectacle of. I feel that if we show everyone how we feel on flag burning, then people will not do it.

There is one case where flag burning should not result in death. If a US flag touches the ground, it is supposed to be burned, so I am all for it.

Ok.

They burn flags. They hate the country. According to the Constitution of the United States of America, you cannot charge someone with treason, without them actually doing something. If they just say they hate America, you cannot arrest them. If they burn a flag, you cannot arrest them. You take away this right, there will be tons of trouble. I can bet more experienced people than you have tried to take away the flag burner's rights, and failed. If you do want to make a pathetic attempt at change, gather a few friends and go rally against this outside a government building. If you have the courage.

If flag burning was outlawed, a few amendments would have to be proposed and go through the lengthy process of becoming official. Some of your rights would have to be taken away.

Sort of enforcing the idea I said before, a satanic group and gather and hold meetings about how stupid God is, and scream hate cries at the top of their lungs. They cannot legally sacrifice believers in the God, without being executed for first degree murder.

Nine thousand amendments have been proposed since the first 10 in the Bill of Rights in 1791. Ever since 1791, only 17 amendments have been passed.

Try me. I can reject all you say with the Constitution. hehe

spit.gif sizza? biglaugh.gif Are you talking about people burning flags in the U.S. or overseas like in Iraq and countries like that? Cause if American citizens are burning flags they still shouldn't be killed. The Constitution protects this or something, I know its leagal somehow. People in countries like Iraq shouldn't be killed since their government (if they had one) deals with it in a different way than we do. If they were in a country overseas we wouldn't pay the tax dollars since they would be put in jails over there. Like ticktock said (i think it was tick) giving someone the death penalty costs more than jail time does. Unless you shoot them or something... but thats different.

Remember, The American way isn't always the right way, or ever the right way grnwink.gif

6. Someone in the US burns a UK flag (just an example people...), they have committted no crime, as they aren't in the UK. If someone in the UK burns a UK flag, they in trouble because they did it in the UK and that is treason. (If they aren't a citizen of the country they did it in, they should be shot as any other enemy soldier would had they ben at war.)

8. Change our capital punishment waiting time. We spen way too much money on prisons as it is. Basically one big three star hotel.

9. Cricket sounds confusing, I'm gonna try it sometime.

10. An attempt to try you: why is burning draft cards illigal then?

11. Look up the sedition acts. I'd go more in depth with them, but my gov't book is in my locket at school.

12. You don't have to take away other rights just to get flag burning made illegal. Just make an amendment (hard, but still an option) that excludes flag burning from a symbolic speach freedom. Or you could find a way (like they did with draft cards) to get around the first amendment.

13. Why would a hippie burn a flag? It puts all sorts of pollution into the air, going against all their beliefs. Oh well, hippies suck. bluetongue.gif

pardon my stupidity, but what are draft cards? I'm only 12 and a half yrs old, so dont know that much. biglaugh.gif

Uhh, Sedition Act? That was put in effect in the days of Adams, the days of Federalism. And at the election after Adams' term, Jefferson won. The day he was sworn in the Sedition Act was repealed. So that's out of the picture.

Sorry I cant talk more, but I have to go eat dinner, practice piano, and then go to a piano lesson. And after that run my daily mile. See you later!

You know quite a bit for a 12 year old, but I took a college course on this, and I'm 16. bluetongue.gif (But age doesn't matter) Anyway, there was another sedition act, i think it came in around wilson's time. Been so long... Well, a draft card is something your given to fill out in order to be eligable for the draft. (Something like that) They were frequently burned in protest during vietnam, but they coud get them on the fact that it was more than symbolic speach. They got them on the grounds of "disrupting gov't paperwork." If I could find something legit like that for flag burning, I'd be in business.

If anyone in here is jewish, we could make this like Hagadya. They burn flags we burn them... It's all good.

But more seriously. If a person burns a US flag in UK, first of all, who's going to know about it?
If a person burns a flag in the US, everyone knows about it. See how unimportant it is to other countries? We can't really do anything against em'.

(except maybe Britain. Righto chaps)
HI! I'M BACK SPORADICALLY! Nobody probably remembers me :(

killing people for burnging a flag is really hippocritical...

then again, that is what this country thrives on. However, i do not beleive that killing the person is the solution. By "making a specticle" of them, you are only showing that your country is a ruthless nation that kills for petty crimes.

And then you have all of the situations when burning a flag may be needed. Things like, (this is really far-fetched, but then again....) let's say you are living in harsh conditions, and you need to light a fire, right? but all the kindling around is dry wood. Dry wood doesn't start on it's own very easily, so you need something to start it with, right? Well in times of hardship, people can't just go into the supply closet and bring out a couple fire-starters, they use what they can get. (see where this is going?) And yes, you are supposed to burn an american flag if it touches the ground; but i beleive that was put into effect during the two world wars, because of the fact that the people felt extreme nationalism, and figured that a flag that touched the ground could never fly in service of their country again. Well, just like the law in michigan that states that it is illegal to drive a red car,* this really has lost effect.

*(this law was set up during the first days of automobiles, when the only way to tell a firetruck from a car was that the firetruck was red, and since they didn't have sirens, you were supposed to yeild for a red car.)
