Hamurabi was a genius. He made the "eye for an eye" thing. And trust me, that wasn't a figurative term. If you did something to someone's eye, they got to cut out yours. They'd burn the skin off your tongue if you spoke badly of a woman, and if you killed someone's son, they killed yours.
HI! I'M BACK SPORADICALLY! Nobody probably remembers me :(

I think that the death penalty is very harsh, although in some cases it might be the right thing to do, but then again view it this way, take someone's life by it then taking your life.. 2 killings dont make the second one right. Yet overall I think let them suffer in life imprisonment, that way they can have all their years thinking of what they did and ..well regretting it.

This morning on the news there was this guy that stabbed a three year old to death and paralyed her sister. I think he was nineteen then, and he got death penalty for that.
I don't really know, but I think they should keep the death penalty for when it's really needed. Even if the guilty person killed hundreds, his punishment would be yet another killing.

Reasons why the death penalty saves lives:
1. Plea bargaining
Someone that has committed a capitol offense (punishable by the death penalty) may give information or testimony in return for a lesser charge. This does two things. First, it guarentees that the criminal is going to jail, even if he or she isn't given the death penalty. This prevents the criminal from being found not guilty by a jury. Also, the information or testimony might help convict another criminal, tus making the world a safer place.
Example:
Barry the Butcher and Sally the Slayer (lol) kill 7 people. The cops catch Barry and have a solid case against him. The cops then catch Sally, but they don't have any evidence that proves Sally killed people. In return for testimony that Sally helped, Barry is given life in prison instead of the death penalty. This testimony helps put Sally in jail. If Barry hadn't testified against Sally, she'd still be on the streets slaying people.
2. In-jail killing.
Another unfortunate aspect of our prison system is that inmates can kill other inmates and guards, and do so quite frequently (according to the legal dramas I watch on TV). By killing someone off, it is significantly less likely that the person will kill another inmate/guard after they themselves are killed. Of course, the death penalty isnt the only solution here... prison reform would be preferable.

It must be true if it's on a FICTIONAL DRAMATISED TV programme!
