A distance from the outskirts of Trabia, a large perimeter has been sealed off with a tall fence. Several D-drones walk around the perimeter. Inside the perimeter, there are several prefabricated buildings and another fenced off area with a larger building that has an opening to the fenced area. Guards and others walk around the area. Right next to the inner fence stands Lupus and Osterman, talking.
"I hope this new design is able to live up to expectations," Lupus remarks.
Osterman's responds coldly, "It may. We will know shortly."
A shorter man walks to the two. He salutes awkwardly. "Sir!"
"There's no need for such formalities," Lupus says warmly. He smiles. "Are we about ready?"
"Yes... We actually have to machines to present to you. I hope that there's nothing you have to do right after this."
"Nothing that can not wait," Osterman flatly says.
"Yes... Well... The first drone is the one you have heard the most about," says the man.
He points to the large building. The door to the fenced area opens, and red light appears inside the building. A single drone prototype exits the building. It stands on six legs with unusual splits near their ends. Quite a few arms hang from the bottom of the drone, and it appears that two turret-like guns are attached as well. It turns so it's two red eyes can scan the area. The possible intimidation factor is weakened by the dull shine of the drone's unpainted metal and the wires and tubes that are hanging out of the joints of the machine.
"Interesting... What do you think, Mikhail?" Ziggy asks.
"It looks functional. The red eyes will likely make it more intimidating," Osterman replies. "Can we see how well it works?"
"Of course... First let me give a general overview...As you can see, it is similar to the D-drones we already use. This creation, however is taller at 12 feet. Like the D-drone it has smaller eyes attached to it to give better field of view. As you said, sir, the two large eyes are colored red in hopes of frightening opponents. Well, I'll stop talking and you can see this invention speak for itself."
The prototype walks forward and then backward, where it holds several arms out. Finally it sidesteps a bit, again holding out several arms. It stops moving and lets out a beeping tone.
"As with the D-drone, it has speakers to communicate. We haven't of yet worked with it actually speaking though. We also haven't tried to remove the 'edge' of its vocals."
"I would suggest not removing the 'edge.' The harshness can make it seem more alien and therefore frightening."
"I would agree with that, Mikhail, but there's the question of our own people. Would it bother them?"
"Perhaps. However, I do not think that there will be many long conversations between Trabians and these drones."
"Good point. This is all something to be decided later, though. Please, Dr. Kryl, continue."
The man speaks again, "Okay. The prototype is equipped with two small ion cannons mounted on rotating ball turrets. They could fire at many different angles. They're controlled separately, so each can be fired in a different direction."
The drone rotates its guns and points them both up and down. Dr. Kryl points to a small target at the other end of the perimeter.
"We're going to have it run the perimeter of the fence. After that, it will shoot at the target."
"Okay."
"Very well."
The drone stands for a moment before running the perimeter of the fence. It flings snow off the ground as its legs move. It reaches its starting point shortly after.
"Impressive."
"Yes."
The drone fires at the target with both cannons several times. Each strike hits the target.
"How far is it accurate?" Osterman asks.
"About double this distance. After that, it starts to hit around the object."
Ziggy says, "That's fantastic! Is there anything else you'd like us to see about this prototype?"
"No, that's all. At least until we get the arm dexterity tweaked and the vocal systems online."
The drone walks back into the building.
Dr. Kryl announces the other prototype to Lupus and Osterman.
OOC: I, however, am tired of writing.
