I don't know how many people here care, but I had to show off somewhere. Jagex have opened RSC twice since 2009 to new members. I made sure that I got access back and started training straight away, almost obsessively. In a few months, I got to 80 attack with just 53 hitpoints.
Anyway, even though it's been a year since it was last opened for two weeks, the game is still alive. There was recently an update that made all of the bots useless which means that instead of there being 100 people on at a time there are now only 30. People are all really nice and friendly, and nobody scams because the community is so small. In my time of obsessive training, I thieved 6000 nature runes and caught and cooked 3000 lobsters, which I just sold for 2 million and from the same person bought a rune large helmet that he smithed for me. For 40k, 100k less than the current market price. Surprisingly, I'm actually finding the game fun.
End of cool story.

Nice... RuneScapers?
An actual friendly community? Like it used to be in 2002 or so?
Pleeeeeeeaaaaase tell us when this opens up again. I doubt I'd play often, but I'd like to know all the same. Especially with no bots.

RS2 is a wasteland. Don't bother playing.

If the membership expires but you logged in during the two week opening period while you had membership, when you pay again you will be able to log in.

What did they do to break bots? That's incredible news. What did they change to make that happen?

Yeah, that's it.
By the way, if you previously played RS1 and lost access you'll get your items and stats back.

It's not that they really broke bots, it's more laziness on part of the bot makers and a lack of interest/profit because so few people play. I don't know how long it will last for, but they they added a "loader" and a re-wrote lot of the client so the modified client bots broke, and changed the size of the screen and randomized the mini map so the colour clicker broke. Bots have been made for the latest version of RSC, but they were a lot worse and failed quite a lot. Only three have been made, and the websites that hosted all three have completely disappeared.

So it opens in a few days?
Also, how do you go about raising hits? I thought they leveled automatically or somesuch. Is there a way to train nothing but HP?

You will have nothing, but your stats will be there. Remember, training is a pain in the {expletive antidisestablishmentarianized by Cspace} and if you don't like your username there is now a way to change it.
Hits do level automatically, but there is a way to get attack levels without hitpoints, which is what I have done on my character. There's also a way to do it for other levels, but it takes much longer and is generally frowned upon.

The RS2 members worlds are pretty overloaded with idiots and bots, just as much as the F2P worlds except you don't have as many spamming advertisers. Also, too much content. I didn't know that a game could be updated too much until I played on a RS2 members world in 2008.
There aren't any RS1 free to play worlds, just members worlds, but there is a "Veteran"'s only world you can access if you have played RSC from August 3rd 2005 to February 3rd 2006. Has 3 players on, max.
