JGJTan Icon : (05 July 2018 - 10:07 AM) So this has been a while! It's @jgjtan and @leftyy here having a nostalgia trip. We hope you all have been having a great time so far! Miss you, be back in another 5-10 years. (Or find me on social media -- it's not that hard.)
MoldyRaven Icon : (07 November 2017 - 10:03 AM) Back again after 14 years! Good to see this still up.
X Zolon Icon : (22 October 2017 - 04:54 PM) Polo.

ticktockclok Icon : (08 October 2017 - 11:26 PM) Just thought of this place, and figured I would try to log in. I last posted 10 years ago. Hello to anyone out there - especially those from way back!
Res Icon : (06 October 2017 - 03:11 AM) As well as things can be, good to hear from you all :D!!! Much love all around.
X Zolon Icon : (05 October 2017 - 05:02 AM) Strange. I was thinking about it around the same time. Just didn't come back until now. Hope everyone is well.
Glammeress Icon : (16 July 2017 - 12:48 AM) Just thinking about this place, like out of nowhere. Hope everyone is well.
Rylkan Icon : (09 July 2017 - 04:07 PM) Not bad. Just finishing up grad school. Which means I am looking for distractions from writing. :p
Phieta Icon : (09 July 2017 - 05:06 AM) Still flying, so to speak. How goes with you?
Rylkan Icon : (09 July 2017 - 02:42 AM) I am even more amazed someone replied to this in less than a few month timescale. Hi! How goes?
Phieta Icon : (08 July 2017 - 09:43 PM) He does log into GW every month or so to retain leadership, so that's something
Phieta Icon : (08 July 2017 - 09:42 PM) There are several of us! Several!
Rylkan Icon : (08 July 2017 - 06:33 PM) I was actually hoping to get in touch with Cspace since its been forever. But it looks like our old leader is lost to the void.
Rylkan Icon : (08 July 2017 - 06:29 PM) In a moment of pure nostalgia, I remembered this site. Seeing any shouts from this year is insane.
asyluman Icon : (17 January 2017 - 02:45 AM) i only JUST started playing FFVIII
asyluman Icon : (17 January 2017 - 02:45 AM) woah are people still here
Phieta Icon : (13 January 2017 - 09:05 AM) Apparently I joined SeeD 14 years ago today.
Dragonman Icon : (10 September 2016 - 02:29 AM) Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive, but to be young was very heaven
x.. Icon : (13 July 2016 - 01:14 AM) idk. both of those are complicated questions.

Here's a place for everyone to post their own suggestions for making the most of our forums, or potentially any forum-centered site. Perhaps it'll be useful for new members who aren't as familiar with this sort of thing, and a worthy discussion for "veterans". thumb.gif

Silence

Sometimes silence is thought to imply "I agree, so I have nothing to say". Sometimes it's thought to imply "I disagree so I won't support it". Other times silence is used instead of "no" when asked a question. Perhaps it could also be thought to imply other things. It doesn't really imply anything, other than your absence from a thread or lack of an opinion. bluetongue.gif It's not a good idea to use silence if you actually want to have a say in anything, because unlike in reality, your presence in a discussion isn't usually obvious to other people if you're not saying anything.

*************************************

Sarcasm

Without strategic use of emoticons, this is not always easy to pull off when your "voice" is merely text. There's often little difference between sarcasm and a truthful reply. You can use sarcasm, but be careful with it... Your post can easily be taken the wrong way if you don't make it obvious what you're actually saying.

*************************************

Your Avatar

Think a little bit about your avatar when you choose one. There's a tendency for one to associate a person with an avatar because one's mind will sometimes create a picture of someone when none is provided. I know it sounds stupid... But if you've been on a forum for a while, and you know of someone who always uses the avatar of a certain character you know, what do you think that person is like? Appearance? Personality?

You may find some odd similarities with the avatar, even if they're in fact different than the actual person. It sounds pointless, but it's psychology. bluetongue.gif May as well not choose something that will hurt your image.

*************************************

Spacing Posts

Bullets, whitespace (blank lines), and other breaks are often good in a long post. Try not to use long paragraphs, and put space between them. It's all about readability here, not the conventions you'll see on paper or in a book.

*************************************

Highlighting Posts

Sometimes it's a good idea to make something stand out. Color is an effective way to do it. With a dark background like on CurvedSpace, light colors stand out the most. Of all the colors, as much as you may hate it, yellow stands out the most. It's the color to which the human eye is most sensitive. thumb.gif

Also, as a related hint... Don't use red and green together. Those who are color-blind may have trouble telling them apart, and more are color-blind than some would assume. In fact, I would recommend that red isn't used here anyway, because it can clash with more of CurvedSpace's skins than most other colors.

Good vocabulary, correct speeling, and the Grammar.

Yes it does matter. Perfect English is not necessary, but an attempt at it makes you sound much more intelligent then you probably are bluetongue.gif , and it makes your posts readable.
Don't worry, writing well becomes habit eventually.

Example:
The two following quotes convey the same message, but the second one seems as if it was written by a moron who should consider an hero if that's how he normally talks irl.

While I agree, and I find I often have to slow down to read some posts. . . .

Don't make a big deal out of someone's poor grammar/spelling, especially in public. In particular, don't post a reply for the sole purpose of criticizing/correcting such errors, unless asked. Also be a good example, and make sure your own spelling and grammar are correct. This is especially important if you are going to criticize others for the same.

Normally I wouldn't mention it, but you spelt 'consider' wrong Jake. grnwink.gif

In general I guess it's good not to assume the worst of people. Misunderstandings are easy enough (particularly in text) that if you fly off the handle at every perceived insult you'll probably just end up looking hot-headed and intolerant. A lot of the time it wouldn't have been intended in a negative manner.
For the same reasoning, don't use sarcastic little comments as a way of goading someone while avoiding direct confrontation. It tends to be pretty obvious to those around you and it won't make you any friends.

Umm... Not sure what else to say, really. I guess I'll post again later if anything comes to mind. Rat's post made me laugh, though. bluetongue.gif

Teehee, it took me a while to work out why it is called 'whitespace'. Confusing ol' colour scheme. ^ .^
I have trademarked the symbol: '™'. You fail at display names.

^ Thanks to Nazy for the... thingy ^

Things which you should look at:

SKoA - http://skoa.cspacezone.com/ , if you have any Age of Empires games.

The DS Garden Festival Minigame - Link , whether you play DStorm or not.

The Most Mysterious SSSS - Link For people who don't care about...things.

Like LEGO? Play Blockland!

I may be an Arbiter, but I'll always be a SeeDy little man.™™

I went over this topic last week and was reminded about the same thing.
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

As much as I dislike the site, you'll find everything you need there.

On a more positive note I scored a 29 on that ACT bluetongue.gif
