General Things...
- Try not to spam or double post in roleplay threads. Though in other boards the rules are rather lenient about these things, it will likely be looked down upon in the roleplay forums. You should attempt to put quality into every post that you make while roleplaying. This doesn't mean that if you're not as good as others at roleplaying, people will get angry with you -- it just means try your best, at whatever skill level you have.
- Do not godmod (orhoweveryouspellthat....). For those of you who do not know what this is, it's when you control the actions of another character. You should never, under any circumstances, control someone else. I assume that GMs are provided a bit of leniency here, because at times it may be required, but for those who are not a GM, it should be avoided.
- Do not powerplay. This is when you roleplay your character as an all-powerful being -- or, at least, more powerful than he rightfully should be. I believe Cspace said he intends to present a guideline for the an average player's character, but until then... Try to be realistic XD Try to be realistic anyway, in fact, even after Cspace says what the boundary is. Your character doesn't -have- to be powerful. It could be fun to try to roleplay a poor, lonely, weak peasant boy. ... Or something...
- I'm not sure about this one, but I assume you won't be able to have creatures/spells/items/weapons/etc. that you haven't bought or in some other way found or been given or something. I don't know if you'll be allowed a 'starter weapon' like in DS1, or if -- since Cspace seems to be going with a -very- open-ended form of complete roleplayism -- you'll simply be allowed to make any kind of items for your character you want, but I'll leave this here until he corrects me.
- Darkstorm is mostly based in a world mixed between medieval/fantasy and futuristic. Therefore, I'll assume that this means that you shouldn't have modern things. Try to roleplay thus. The part of the world that has technology has technology that is far past ours (I think), so this means there will not be television/electronics as we know them. It'll be more advanced. Now, on the other side of the spectrum, in the places that are more medieval/fantasy, realize that technology would likely be rather nonexistent, replaced by things like magic.
- Use a realistic character name. Your character's name -probably- shouldn't contain numbers (unless... they're a machine or something, I guess ). For a lot of people, your character's name probably shouldn't be your forum username. Names like 'Bigrat2' or 'Cspace' probably aren't the best names. On the other hand, some people's usernames work fine -- like 'Neraphym' or something similar. Try to think of something that someone might -actually- be called in this world of Darkstorm. And remember that this is -not- the real world. Naming your character a name from real life might not work too well.
- Don't make a character that is a blatant rip-off of another fictional character. Though a similarity in names -might- be okay (though I wouldn't suggest it), try to steer away from this sort of thing. For example, making a character named 'Squall Leonhart' who wields a gunblade, has a scar across his face, and is generally distrustful, cold, and distant is a bad idea. Though you may DESPERATELY want to play your FAVORITE CHARACTER EVER... don't. Be original. ... Besides, it's probably breaching copyright laws
In Character Things
- Don't kill another person's player unless you have their permission. Death is permanent, just like in real life, except for very special circumstances. Also, if you're thinking about having your character killed, realize that it is a very important decision that you shouldn't take lightly.
- Try not to post completely irrelevant nonsense. Make an attempt to stay in the general theme of the posts in the topic you're posting in. Of course, this only applies if it wouldn't fit your character. If it fits your character to run into a battle between random people and to start yelling about the banana he ate for breakfast, then... by all means!
- Realize that it is not realistic for your character to win -every- fight. Also realize that if you try to make it so your character(s) win every fight, people will get angry with you. And you do not want people angry with you. Try to be realistic. When you start fighting someone, look at their character's description and ask yourself... "Do I truly think my character could beat this person?" If the answer is no, then don't it. Also, you should think about discussing with the person you're fighting with about the outcome of the battle. It can be very beneficial to both of you if you talk about it ahead of time. Or, of course, if you so desire you can just see how the battle flows and decide as you go.
