You are right, RPGs let people escape reality and do things they would never be able to do, while there are still bondaries in a game, they surpass the boundaries of reality
If you die in reality..... you die
if you die in a game, you'll come back. (unless its like Diablo II where you can make a hardcore character and they NEVER come back)
it gives you something to work for, it lets you make friends, it lets you forget about everything else OUTSIDE of the screen.
KM
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

The reason I like RPGs so much is that they are immersive. More single-player RPGs than online ones, but it's still a good point. You can spend an hour slaying demons or smithing your own armour, thats never likely to happen in reality.
The advantage online games have over others is that you can interact with other players. Although this can ruin the atmosphere of the game, it's immersive in it's own way. The game has much more replay value, and you can make friends in it. Being able to improve your character also adds replay value, as the longer the play the more there is to do.

Humans need something to justify their existance. Runescape is just that. It gives a sense of accomplishment when you get your first dragon med, or when you beat legends. It is stuff like this that gives meaning to your life. It is also a way to be successful. Let's face it, reality sucks. Runescape is a way to escape reality as well, therefor people look to it as a way to be what they could never be in real life, a hero.
Thats about the best post i ever read How true...
