Now that the sure-to-be anticipated movie, Pirates of the Carribean: At world's end will be shown in theaters in about 2 months and counting, let us talk about the undersea titanic, known as the Kraken. Many say the kraken is just a legend, but many believe it is a real-life creature. What do you think of the Kraken and what do you know or learn about it?

Giants squids do exist....
Yes they do. And it was...I think mid-late last year, a live giant squid was caught on video for the first time in history.Whether or not the kraken is a massive squid/octopus or not depends on what source you look at. Some call it a sea monster instead, whose origins may have been derived from giant squids.
The simplest rational explanation for the kraken is that it's either a giant squid or an overgrown giant squid. Either that or people way back saw a giant squid and exaggerated its size. And then again, there is always the possiblity that there's a species of squid/octopus even larger than the giant squid which hasn't been cataloged or discovered yet, which itself could be the kraken.

It is quite possibly real.
Right all the way down at the bottom of the sea, there are species of aqualife that haven't even been discovered yet. There is little doubt that there is a big possiblity that such a squid could be down there.
There's also been a news story of a species of shark that was thought to of been extinct for thousands of years, who had managed to swim up from the depths. The shark got caught on video, and it only survived a few hours since it couldn't survive in the reletively low pressure at the surface.

I remembered hearing/reading from somewhere that krakens were around a mile long, which got me very interested in them. They're one of my top favorite mythical creatures, just because of that factor. And it's to picture them being that big, since the ocean is so vast itself and kind that much mass so easily.

I've heard of a species called the Colossal Squid, which is supposed to be larger than the giant squid.
