If someone begins to play a game and they suddenly become involved into it to a point where they play around forty-ninety hours /for just that game/ should their family/friends/etc hold a intervention?

Debate!

40-90 in one sitting, all together, or per week?

I was thinking per week, however 'in one sitting' brings a interesting point to it. I think that 40-90 hours all together is hardly anything though. icon_sweatdrop.gif

Per week? Well, it all depends on how that particular person manages their life. I suppose that it can be possible for a person (Assuming they work 40Hrs a week and sleep 8 hours per night) to play about 40-50 hours a week and still manage their life, but much past that and you hit a point where a person starts cutting into their priorities just for the game.
And if it gets too bad, then someone needs to talk to him/her.

Now obviously this "limit" is varies from person to person depending on their situation. But my point is, that everyone has a limit to the amount of leisure time that they can take without hurting themselves, and if they pass that line they need to be very careful not to do anything they will regret.

There is a certain point where this may be needed. I think the time given was a bit short per week, but in one sitting, there needs to be some sort of cutoff. Maybe not an intervention.

If it becomes damaging to them, where they may stop eating/bathing/sleeping on a regular basis, yes.
If it gets to a point where they cease functioning as a contributing member of society, yes.
If they begin to take game priorities over that of real life, I.E. telling friends off because they wanted a level, yes.

I know about three people this affects (All WoW'ers, sadly enough.)
People I speak to continuously tell me if ever invited over, they are only able to 'watch' them play WoW. They will not leave their raid to go outside with their friends -whom they invited to their house-.

Then it becomes damaging.

I agree with the above. If you cannot limit your own playing time, then you need someone else to help you limit it. Gaming addiction is real and dangerous. It's hard to pull yourself out of it, but it can be made easier with the help of friends and family.

I just recently spoke to a fellow who's ladyfriend actually died while playing Everquest.

Brain aneurysm. Maybe unrelated, but still.

Andrew played Rappelz all week, he said it was AFK hours though. ShiftyEyes_anim.gif

I once had a small gaming addiction, it wasn't much, but it was dangerous.

Most of Andrew's hours are AFK. I have 41 hours logged this week in Guild Wars, but quite a bit of those were AFK as well. I won't lie though, I did play more than I should bluetongue.gif .
