Actually... That's not entirely true. During the process in which the polarity flips we will be rendered vulnerable to matter ejected by the sun, however it will not destroy us. The ionized particles will strike the atmosphere and cause a sudden increase in cancer (which is likely to be easily curable when this occurs) all over the world but they will not actually kill anyone directly. While they will wear away at the atmosphere the process will not last long enough to "blow it away" as some say. From sources I've read (I studied this some) scientists suggest that it takes roughly 2000 years to complete the process (although it is mostly speculation), but it isn't going to happen during our lifetimes. There are visible signs that the process is beginning, though it is not likely to actually flip anytime soon. The pattern shows that we are very late for the polarity shift but it still takes time.

I can get pretty far into this, but the greatest proof that we'll be fine is that we're here in the first place. Polarity shifts happen relatively frequently when you look at the big picture, and has occurred many times throughout the existence of life (which did not all die on the same intervals). If anything, I would look forward to it because the Northern Lights would be seen all over the world. coolgleamA.gif
