There are many similarities between “Fish Cheeks” and The Joy Luck Club. Amy Tan included many literary elements and techniques in both the novel and short story borrowed from Seventeen magazine. The author, Amy Tan used elements and techniques such as similes and imagery in her works.
Examples of imagery were shown in both The Joy Luck Club and “Fish Cheeks.”
Imagery was first introduced in “Fish Cheeks” in paragraph three. The author creates a vivid picture of events that were taken place in “Fish Cheeks.” Not only does Tan describe the affair that was taking place, but she also show how the girl was embarrassed by her family because of the generation gap that separates them. Like “Fish Cheeks,” The Joy Luck Club, also illustrates how the events are taking place within the novel.
