well...one big thing about many forms of polytheism is that they have gods/goddesses for everything... and especialy in greek mythology, in wich each of the gods have a personality type. they're are so many gods(each representing not only a role in the way of things but in different personalities) that you could easily devise a matching sytem, to tell some one what they are like.

It could be said that there is so many personality types, and people of the same personality type will be similar in life style and behavior, that if the gods exemplifie these main personality types. that people of that time could have identified more easily with theyre gods(and if you didnt get one, well, there was alot to choose from).

the more akined ppl un-consciencly feel towards something( a god or goddess in this instance). the more likely they are to take to it. like how it is said that alot of dogs look like they're masters. this could have been a devised sytem to get ppl of that time to believe in their gods more.
