People have the right to smoke, so let them. While I think it's stupid, and know it's dangers, people have the right to destroy themselves.

As for age.. 18 to vote, 18 to smoke, 18 to drink.

But.. public smoking should be illegal. If people want to destroy their lungs, let them. But why the bleargh should I have to breathe that crap in, especially with no filter (the smoker is safer than bystanders).

I'm with KC, if they know what it can do to them, but do it anyway, let them.

(on the age thing, i think you need to be at least 21 to drink.. for those idiots that drink when they drive)

Even though i don't smoke... Directly.... im around it all the time, for my brother smokes, and 3 of my friends do.

The public smoking.. yes... illegal.. or something to that effect.
Other people are 2 times as likely to get lung cancer than the smoker (i think... thats what i heard)

Totally with KC (Second time in half an hour....)

But I like drinking, and I'm only thirteen, but the 'bullies' and whatnot, the stupid idiotic 'cool' people shouldn't be allowed near alcohol.

But on the topic of smoking, I'd love no public smoking, only in their house so it smells like birdseed. bluetongue.gif

I agree with KC on this.

People should be allowed to smoke if they want to even though it is bad. It can cause lung cancer for the smoker and 2nd hand smoke is bad for the recipients because it can give stuff like asthma and honestly, the smell of smokers is absolutely terrible!

well... isn't KC the popular one bluetongue.gif I agree with him too TheSmile.gif

I really don't understand why people smoke anyway?
Yeah, lets all breathe in smoke and get cancer thumb.gif and to top it off, it makes us stink... That's real cool... eek7.gif
As for smoking in public, I hate that too. I go out with my mates, (most of them smoke) come home and my clothes reek of cigarette smoke screama.gif

There seriously is NO POINT in cigarettes.

What I don't like is how kids can't buy cigarrets, but they can smoke them. WTF?! Why the heck would you pass a law to keep them from buying em, when you could just pass a law saying they can't smoke or buy them?!

Jeez...

Because people cant keep an eye on their kids 24/7

other people can buy them and give them to their kids, or they might be able to steal some from their parents if t3h parenst smoke.

I agree with Killerconvic on this one. Heck, if people want to ruin their lives so badly, let them. Smoking is just plain stupid.

Hmm smoking, well just about all of or most of my friends smoke, only a few of the 40 dont..

I dont really care if its allowed or not, if people want to do it they should be allowed. As for buying, you just ask an adult to go in for you, thought the adults should have some respect for the law and say NO. Where i live ID isnt even needed..
Plus smoking occasionaly isnt exactly ruining your life.. If you moved onto smoke more stuff then yes your ruining your life, heck i used to smoke but quit because it was pretty pointless..

I sorta agree about this one, KC. There is only one problem with letting people smoke. If certain people smoke, and get really bad diseases, they stick us with the bill. Say someone has lung cancer, and another had some accident and lost a lung. The smoker, who conciously ruined his or her own lung, might take it away from someone who deserves it more. I say any smoker should automatically be put at the bottom of any organ waiting list. Also, government aid programs should never benefit a smoker (if smoking is a relevant issue, of course). I also think smoking in the presence of a non-smoker is actually a crime. I'm going to find out someday whether or not it is legal to attack and kill someone for blowing smoke at you (technically, they are purposely filling your lungs with lethal gasses, which is nearly the same as pointing a gun at you in my mind, especially because I have asthema).

As for drinking, we should have absolutely no tolerance for DUI. I say you do it, you get imprisoned for 30-50 years and you may never purchase/consume alcohol or drive again. So many innocent people die a year cause of idiots who drink and drive. If I had my own society, the punishment would be death by torture.

my parents smoke, and i cant escape from it. the pc is right next to the dining room where they are supposed to stay to smokeand my mates are all of on holiday., but in the past 3 months they just smoke where the **** they want, and im feeling the goddam effects of it! eg, for the past 3 weeks i have had a really bad cough that hurts when i do it, but im doing it quite alot, and i think its related to the incessive smoking, but itl be fine soon. were havin a small bonfire, so guess whats going to be the fuel FIREdevil.gif

for the punishment for smoking in public i think they should be forced to see how many peaple die because of them, individually. that will leave the smokers with knowing they did it. IMO, living with large amounts of mind numbing, gut tearing greif and the unemaginable amounts of guilt would be the perfect punisment for smoking in public. a little extreme but meh. it's psycological torture, it takes forever to heal....

Good point on the lung replacement, Alpha. Maybe if smokers were 'last priority' for lung replacement surgery, unless their friends/family wanted to donate, then that wouldn't be as much of an issue, if at all.
