Hmm...strange. From what you're saying, every time Yellowstone erupts it "destroys anyone's hope of living on the planet", but if Yellowstone erupts every 100,000 years and humans have been around for 4,000,000 (four million) years then we somehow managed to survive total worldwide extinction at least 40 times...
Could someone please correct me if I’m wrong?

Hmm.. although I haven't heard of Yellowstone I remember hearing about a pretty massive volcano somewhere in Indonesia that when it erupted had enough power to create another ice age. At our present level of technology we can't do too much to stop something so powerfully unstoppable, so it's best not to dwell on it. There may come a day when technology has advanced to the stage we can control nature itself, but that day isn't here yet.

Ninten, good point, here is my reply.
It may not have erupted 40 times. Here are a few explanations.
1: As with our current state, it is late and due for an eruption. This could have happened to reduce the ammount of eruptions.
2: The volcano may not have formed yet.
Also, it did do this a few time, leaving but a small ammount of survivors alive. Of course, the blast was not as intense, but enough to damage civilization. Perhaps.. that is where our missing link went..?
