O_o Wow.. Apparently, Cspace was first to discover this eek4.gif It's almost hard to believe, but knowing Cspace, I can see that it is true! I'm no astronomer, but reading the news, this looks and sounds very cool coolgleamA.gif

I reduced the size of the region (circle is smaller) and zoomed in, here are some stars that exist in the scanned region.

Note: All the white specs are stars but only those with the highest magnitude, I believe, are the ones with labels.

I'll post one which is even closer in a second...

I heard about this a few days ago... first thing that popped into my head was, "Whoa, Cspace will die when he hears this" (closely followed by "dibbs on his stuff"). But you being one of the @homers that analyzed it is cooler bluetongue.gif

BTW, this reminded me to reinstall it, which I just did. Still working on dats unit 2, 18% done Whatever_anim.gif From March or so
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.

I refined the region a little bit more (just until no stars were visible within the circle) and this is what we have, as close as our database of stars will take us to the center of the signal.

user posted image

Hehe, in the next month I bet this circle will be filled in by hubble. bluetongue.gif

Note: The center of the circle is not necessarily the location of the signal exactly. The center is closer to the signal most likely, but it could be anywhere within the strip in which SETI looked.

****************************************************

If you're interested in the number of questionable signals check this out (this was the unit, an image that I forgot to post earlier):

user posted image

For those who use SETI@home and Starry Night, you would know that this is a bit odd (normally there are only a couple "telephone poles" alone in different places). Those "telephone poles" represent the locations spikes and odd signals, the little perpendicular lines on them represent the specific signals (one per signal), and I believe the heights of the lines represent their power.

For more images, again, please check my link in an earlier reply.

!!!

There is a 66% that this could be a great improvement for our current sciences! (Either new anomaly or intelligent life form!) the other 33% would be if it's a glitch...

But this is amazing, I got my dad to look at your stuff, he was impressed biglaugh.gif but yeah, this is so cool! KEEP US POSTED!

I remember talking to my astronomy teacher about this and we couldn't figure out what it was (back sometime in May I think).

user posted image
(this is basically the pattern found in the series of screenshots of the data unit)

We were thinking that it could be something like a doppler effect on a pulsar, but I think we concluded that it probably would not be possible for it to create something like that. Other than that we were pretty clueless. Same with Rylkan, lol.

The chances of a malfunction are there, but I don't see how it can find the signal three times in the same exact sliver of the sky if this is the case...

The Arecibo Radio Observatory is that telescope physically built into the ground (I am not positive but I think that that was the location of the end of Goldeneye, even though it was not a telescope in the movie). That's what found the signal if you were interested.

Yeah, I'm 100% sure that was from Goldeneye. It's also in that Contact movie. Oh yeah, this is so awesome! I wanna marry one of these aliens so we can have a hybrid child that is powerful enough to enslave both our races (I'd be so proud TheSmile.gif).

So is this SETI at home stuff software you buy, or do you have to know someone to get it? And where do you go from here, Cspace? Do you talk to someone bigger about this, or what? This is all quite exiting biglaugh.gif

QUOTE(Echliurn @ Sep 5 2004, 12:49 PM)
wow sproogle is same as me, i believe because i assume we cant be the only ones out there, my mum thinks we are actually aliens, because out of nowhere we appeared.. we look nothing like other creatures although apes and monkeys apparently evolved to us... i just cant believe it i mean its just similarities.

anyway lprince, since we've been on earth its only been a while, many planets are older so they could have more time to evolve, hencing the More Advanced.

but yeah could jsut be a malfunction..
{lang:macro__view_post}

Actually, their's a word for that, panspermia. It's the idea that Life on Earth was seeded from an alien world. Scientists think that a meteor crashed into the ocean, and the heat from falling through the atmosphere awakened the life forms embedded in the rock which got frozen from space travel.

O_o. Well... *gulp* Hope aliens don't suddenly send signal of, like, alien p0rnography or something eek7.gif Ok, bad statement. Point is, this is really cool. We must research! To the books and/or teachers and/or NASA!

This is the official page to download Seti. The setup is fairly simple, but if you do need any help, post here, I will be glad to help you.

Thats amazing! Cspace's world domination schemes are all falling into place, just as I said...

Oh, a few people seem to have misunderstood my stance on aliens. I believe the chances are extremely high there are aliens out there, I just believe the chances of them being close enough that we could detect them is incredibly low. So they're almost certainly out there, but we may never know.
