I'll try to narrow the region down in the next few days (or as soon as possible) so we know exactly where it was looking. This could take a while but I'll be sure to post the results when I get the chance.

In the meantime if you're in an alien mood (lol), check this out. bluetongue.gif

P.S. - All this could be over nothing. It could be a malfunction (unlikely though because this signal was found on at least two occasions I believe) or an anomoly of a star doing this. As for the anomoly, why it would give off that pattern instead of just noise is beyond me... But who knows. I don't think it is a satellite though because it would require that it is stationary for it to be detected twice as I heard, and if this is the case it would be easy to tell. Could be something else though, they could have just listened to an alien pizza order for all we know. laugh.gif eat_arrow.gif

We'll see what they find out, I'm sure this isn't the last time they'll look at that region.

When I went to the SETI@Home site, it had something about reports being exaggerated as the heading of one of their news things. I didn't read it, but it could have something to do with it...

Yeah, that report was done because the other article sounded too definite. With anything like this there is no "sure signal" until they watch it for a while and possibly decipher it. So many were going around saying that they found aliens that they needed to stop it because it probably is not... But it still could be. TheSmile.gif

This is one of the more promising signals so far I believe. I think this is the only signal that seems to be persistent (as in, it was not a quick period of a pattern, it was found in two measurements at different times).

I could be wrong about this though. Regardless it is a good signal and they still do not know what it is.

kk, could someone explain all the random things that are in the SETI window? (I figure it'd have to be a pretty CPU-hungry program to suck my 2.4GHz)

>.< well, I tried to install SETI@j00haus but, it gave me this error... something about DOS... wait, i'll go get the error thingy again, and post it...

"F:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

then there are two buttons: close, and ignore. If i hit ignore, it does the 30-second thingy, but I don't have the screensaver, OR the button in the app. tray.

help! I wanna do this too!

well it could be a satelite i suppose because if its one of the ones that stay hovered over one part of earth then maybe ever 24 hours it emitted some signal that the telescope picked up

PS aliens would be cooler though

PPS i think aliens do exists somewhere but like someone whos post does now not appear in the last 10 i think its too far to be reachable by us in say this millenium

Ill bet it's underground water currents. That, or raccoons got into the system. Again.

Yup, that was me. It just seems unlikely both that we're the only life out there, or that there are aliens within contactable distance of us.

Doomed, I'm pretty sure they've found a great many solar systems and planters grnwink.gif

Who said they had to be little aliens? bluetongue.gif

they could be giant Yellow Circles that can transform into giant robots!

For example: robot.gif

...lol...

Well, I have one beleif about everythin in the world:

In this infinite universe, there are an infinite number of possibilities.

So, there's an infinite chance that there is life somewhere out there,
and there's an infinite chance that there's not!

Call me stupid, but, what is the significance of the location of the signal in that part of the sky?
