I know that it seems that I have to post this on intervals, but please be reasonable with the size of your signature. I know that I give few physical limitations to sigs and it is possible for one to be long (in other words, the forums won't complain with their current configuration). They should not, however, be of obsessive length.

Signatures are just that: Signatures. They don't need to include everything about you, but even if you wish to have a lot of information you can simply use a vertical marquee or even a table to provide columns in your sig. You can even do this for images very easily.

PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE LONG LISTS OF TEXT OR IMAGES IN YOUR SIG.

With a resolution of 1024x768, the following are some generalizations for judging the length of your sig:

Half page or less: No concerns, this is usually the allowed size range on most boards that have sigs enabled. Perfectly fine here.

Half page to three quarters: On some boards this is not allowed at all. Here we can be flexible, but you are starting to push it. If it consists of images, remove an image before adding another (unless in a marquee). If it is nothing but a list of text or stats in a game, please use a marquee or columns. It is just courtesy to everyone else viewing the board, you don't need to divide posts with long lists of words or numbers with a ton of blank space. If you list all your stats in a game such as Runescape with a long list and don't use a marquee or other method of physically shortening it, a mod with sig-editing powers can contact you requesting something to be done about it (cannot edit without notice).

Three quarters to full page: Please shorten it regardless of content. A mod with sig-editing powers can contact you about this, and you are expected to remove or edit your sig to shorten it. If you don't after the notice it could be edited for you.

More than a full page: EDIT IT. I am sorry, it is too long and may be edited by a mod without warning.

I'm not angry at anyone, but it seems that some are just forgetting to be responsible with their sigs. I'm just asking that everyone please take into account the length of their signatures and ask yourself if the content of your sig needs to appear in every single one of your posts and if it can be shortened. Please don't just fill up your sig to the brim for convenience, if you wish to include a lot of information please use a method of physically shortening its dimensions.

What you put in your sig is up to you, it is your sig after all. Please keep its dimensions in mind and it will be fine.

Thanks.

Wow... I took this for granted. I personally cannot stand resolutions less than 1024X768, but some people stick with lower res for one reason or another. I've got to check on all of my sigs now. Thanks for bringing this to attention.

*Edit: and now that i'm at a 800X600 res, my sig Was a problem. Changing immediately. Sorry for any inconvience this may have caused.

*Edit #2: Barely fits now... fits enough that you don't have to scroll anymore, and thats what matters. *takes note of pixel length/width*

I too have noticed a few people have excessive signatures, taking up 2 or 3, or even 4 pages. Also, some sigs make you scroll across which shouldnt be necessary. Thank you for pointing this out cspace.

Oh, happy day when peoples sigs are no longer than their message! sing.gif

Personaly, i've always figured, if you can see the last few lines of my post, and the first few lines of the next post, Its ok-ish (its less than a page) I used to use a marque, but i found out that most browsers dot support them (there invisible, or jsut show ALL the text, taking up several pages)

ah yes, I'm sure that my signature will grow (in the marquee) but as it does, I will hopefully increase the speed of it. But it's nice to point all of this out. despite the DSers will need their fair share of the space too. biglaugh.gif

Yeah, things have been getting a bit crazy recently. icon_sweatdrop.gif

Mine is a bit long at times, not too bad right now I believe, though.

Hmm.. Yours might be a little long, see if you can shorten it a little Fersken. It might be something as simple as putting the text to the right of the picture, rather than above it.

thats something ive been meaning to ask for a while, but havent gotten around to it. how DO you make a vertical marquee? i tried doing it once with a code i found, but needless to say it didnt work. so if anyone could tell me how to do one i would greatly appreciate it!

by the way, onya cspace! i dont use any pics in my sig, i find that pages take ages (no rhyming intended) to load on slower internets. i hope my sig isnt too long, i try to keep it as short as i can.

Yep, signatures are actually just someone's name, not a huge profile or anything. bluetongue.gif That's why in all those sig & graphics forums they just have one image with their name in it and maybe somethin' else. Just keep it to that if you can and then maybe a little something extra like a conversation (vertical marquee), stats in a game, quotes, link to somewhere like an advertisement, bleh.

Mine would be much shorter if it wasn't for that that silly DarkStorm stuff Whatever_anim.gif ....bluetongue.gif

DarkDream: Look at the pinned threads in Signature Center for info on sig codes like marquees. grnwink.gif
