Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of "Myth": Legendary narrative that presents part of the beliefs of a people or explians a practice or natural phenomenon.
Doomed1... History tells us what has happend in the past. But a myth illistrates how the people of a time and place saw the events that we only remember becuase those same people recorded them. History and mythology in my opinion go hand-in-hand they in a sence -if I can remember some of my latin-
" Unus lavat unum"- carsius(one hand washes the other ,or the act of one hand washing another). Knowing what happend, to whom, and when, is important. However, Knowing what they thought of it...how they felt...that gives us the human conection. the Aurthorian legend( The story of Author pendragon-king aurthor) is suspected to be seeded in some truth. At the time brittan(or brittany as I belive it was called then) was over run with foreign warriors, who after completing there charge of helping local kings(of wich there were many in those times), bring oder to the land and definate rule(wich kinda failed), decided that they wanted a peice of the pie. and so a farmer never knew if his feilds and household would be ransacked and burned the next day. the merchant didnt know if or when shipments would be stopped and his stall raided and over turned. it was a time of uncertainty, insecurity, fear...from wich the efforts of a good warrior or general that was beleived to have spawned the stories of hope that echode through the villages, giving the people hope and after time becoming legend, and myth. these people had feelings, concerns, and views that in a time ( the middle ages, or midievill times) where idealistic exprestrion was surpressed by the superstitious views of the church and the war it waged on the old ways ruled more concreatly over any thing else. they could not write what they felt, what they feared and what they hoped for as much as they would have liked to for fear of pursicution if there beliefs were not in perfect alignment with the beliefs of the church, and its puttets the kings(after all you couldnt even become king without religious backing back then). So they told stories, that have survived to this day. it is the second half of history in a way though its exact details are often desputable and not 100% true. Myths and legends leaves us with something history does not and so there are many more then one might think. wonderfull stories that should be told, and discussed and that is why I like this forum.
and doomed1 weather you were talking about this board in specific or general dis like of myths in general im not very clear on...I in no way mean to put you down. rather your post and this topic just opened a pretence for me to express my sle fin this way.
