<> Prologue <>

Ages ago, a great battle was fought between Angels and Demons. The angelic race was lead by a powerful angel, Rytheon. The angels had won several battles, and the war seemed over for them demons. At this time, an indifferent seraphim angel (of the highest class; thought to have three sets of wings) left Spirit World and traveled to Earth on a quest. His name, was Araphym. Ina chaotic battle that ensued shortly after, a powerful rip was torn between the world of the Demons and that of the Earth. Thousands of powerful demons spread across Earth, killing many innocent humans. The angels soon closed off this viod, but it was too late. They were forced to abandon their campaign in Demon world and purge Earth of the remaining demons.

Of the demons that now tainted the Earth, few were more powerful than the Dragon Demon, Neralyse. In human form, there were none that could surpass her beauty and charm. Though a stalwart demon, she fell in love with Araphym, who had saved her (when she was disguised as a human) from a faction of powerful human sages who would have slew her with their immense spiritual prowess. Upon Araphym's discovery that he had just saved a demon, he was greatly shamed. He then sealed Neralyse's powers and took her prisoner on his journey.

In time, Araphym grew fond of his prisoner, and she of Araphym. In time, Araphym released Neralyse of his seal, but she continued to follow Araphym, for they were now in love. Upon hearing of this unholy matrimony, Rytheon did forever banish Araphym from Spirit World, thus Araphym became a fallen angel. Within 6 months, Neralyse gave birth to a child. This was the Half-Dragon-Demon, Half-fallen-Seraphim known as Neraphym.

Soon after, Neraphym was placed in the care of a powerful sage. Both Neralyse and Araphym, his quest unfinished, rose up in battle against the angelic army. With Araphym's help, the Demons anihalated the Angels. Rytheon, having heard of this defeat, sought out and slew Neralyse and Araphym in battle. The strongest demons on Earth rose up against him, and were all struck down, but then an unfortunate human came across the crystal of liminality and shattered it. By doing so he forced the remaining angels back to spirit world, and sealed them there. Never again could the angels intrude on Earth, nor could any more demons pass through. As Neraphym was not entirely angelic, he remained on Earth. Earth was now left in the hands of humans, and the many demons that still rampage unchecked throughout the world.

This is the story of the Great Neraphym...

<> Chapter 1 <>

"Ner... it's late, you should be going to bed," said an old sage.

"I wish to watch the sunrise," explained Neraphym. "It has been far too long."

"It has been ages since last I saw it, myself," the sage said. "I shall watch it with you."

The two sat there looking off the balcany of an old wooden shack, staring into the horizon. It was no less than eleven years ago that the mighty angel Araphym left his son here in the care of a sage. The sage was known to the locals as Balius, though this was not his real name. Balius was a masterful sage, capable of great and miraculus feats. It is said that he even knew how to bring a person back from the dead, though none had ever seen him do it. Balius had a kind heart and took in Neraphym knowing what he was. Neraphym, the half angel, half demon... a child that was never meant to be. Balius knew Neraphym was destined to a life of exile and pain. He also though that Neraphym would one day restore balance to the world. Even a sage as wise as Balius could not begin to imagine the destiny his newly adopted son.

Balius raised Neraphym as if he were his own. He showed him love and compassion. Balius taught Neraphym everything he knew. Absorbing this wealth of knowledge would take decades for a human, but Neraphym was so adept at the arts of magic, he learned with great ease the skills of the sages in a matter of eight years. As great as Balius was, he knew nothing of Neraphym's great angelic and demonic powers. He did what little he could to help Neraphym control his strength and master his power, but Neraphym was beyond his reach.

"Master," began Neraphym, "I sense several men approaching from the east. There are six of them, all on horse. They should be here by mid afternoon. I suspect they are emissaries from King Naladus."

"Your senses amaze even me!" exclaimed Balius. "I'd imagine the king has another assignment for me."

"Why must you endure him, Master? He has no right to boss you around like this. Naladus is a bad man. He taxes his subjects into poverty and spends on the money on himself. I cannot bear for you to work for him any longer."

"It is unavoidable. I live on his land for free, and in exchange, I do favors for him now and then. This is how it has always been."

"But Master, this land is yours. You own it, not Naladus! Promise me you will not work for him"

"I do not mind these favors. He never asks anything of me that I would not do anyway. I don't feel like I am working for him. In fact, I look at it as if he were working for me. He tells me what good there is that I can do in his kingdom. Just because he is asking me to do something doesn't mean I am doing it for him. Do you understand what I mean?"

"I think. What is it that he asks you to do? You've never really told me. Everytime I ask, you get tense and change the subject. What is it you are doing for him?"

"You are not ready to know yet."

"But Master, I am already 11!"

"You are different than I. I imagine you age differently than us humans. I would not know if that number really meant anything for you."

"I am old enough. I am mature enough. I think I am ready to hear it."

"Fine. I promise to tell you when I return from this next assignment."

"I'll hold you to it, Master"

"Ah, there it is!"

Just then the sun began to raise itself above the moutains in the distance. The loud roar of the Kaiten Dragons echoed off the western slopes. These fabled dragons guarded the Kaitus mountains that made up the eastern border of the kingdom on Naladion. King Naladus ruled over the land with an iron fist. His greed and lust for power devastated his people, who were little more than slaves of Naladus. To the west lay the great Arkot ocean. Balius made his residence on the northern reaches of the shoreline. To the north were the hills of Hyrandia, named after a once great kind of this land. South lay the plains of decay, a large swamp region teeming with brigands and criminals. At the base of Mount Kaitus lay the city of Lixus, surrounding the castle belonging to Naladus. Lixus was nothing more than a slum were the poor citizens of Naladion scraped a living off of the land.

"We'd best be getting some rest. I have a big day tomorrow, and you must attend to our herbs and crops in my absence."

"Yes Master," replied Neraphym in the middle of a yawn. "Let's go to bed."

"Goodnight, Ner."

"Goodnight, Master."

Neraphym awoke the next day to find his master preparing breakfast. He was greeted by the smell of fried eggs and onions as he entered the kitchen.

"Good mourning, Master." said Neraphym tiredly. "I love it when you make omlets."

"Good mourning, Ner. How was you sleep?"

"Great, though I felt I slept a bit too well... what time is it?"

"Why it's almost 3:00," said Balius, glancing at his sundial.

"Hm, those men should be arriving shortly. I sense they are withing 15 minuts of here."

"You know what to do when they get here, don't you?"

"Yes, Master. I am to remain hidden until they are all gone."

"We wouldn't want the king to know you are here, would we? God knows what would happen should he find out you exist."

"Mmm, this omlete is soooo delicious."

"Why thank you, Ner." said Balius with a smile on his face. "A man is always delighted to hear when his hard work is appreciated."

"Well, those men will be here any minute now. I can already smell what they ate for their brakefast. It wasn't nearly as good as ours!"

Neraphym and Balius laughed as they cleaned up after themselves. Neraphym then ran up to his room and burried himself in a book while Balius went out to await the arrival of the king's men. Neraphym had chosen one of the first books he read, entitled "Healing Properties of Herbs."

The Bascullweed is a very rare and powerful herb that grows in the land of Kaltheon. This herb is used as a last resort when it comes to healing wounds. Though it is very effective at curing infections and speeding up the healing process, it can have some serious effects on the patient's memory, and temporarily impares all senses.

"Don't play dumb with us! We know what you're hiding, old man!"

"I don't know what you're talking about, there are no Angels here!"

"You'll show us where he is if you knew what was good for you!"

Neraphym jumped to his feet and ran to the window. He was shocked to see the five men holding his master at knifepoint. Enraged at the sight of this, Neraphym threw open the window and jumped down off the balcony. He slowly rose from his landing and gave a piercing stare into the soldier hold the sword to Balius' neck, his eye glowing red with anger.

"There he is." said one of the knights still on horseback. "We don't need the old man anymore. Kill him!"

With that, the soldier ran his blade across Balius' throat, sending him falling to the ground gasping for air. He girgled and flailed about until he suffocated on his own blood. Neraphym stood there with tears in his eyes, now closed as tightly as his clenched fists.

"Alrigth Angel, come with us!" The knight demanded. "The king demands it!"

"Human..." Neraphym began. Shaking and grinding his teeth. His eyes remained closed and filled with tears. "You dare kill my master in front of my eyes, then ask me to be your slave? What manner of being are you? Balius was right, you humans are a wicked race! Now die!"

With that, Neraphym flew towards the knight on horseback and slashed him to pieces with his claws. He then turned on the soldier whose blade had ended the life of his beloved master. With one swift stroke, he decapitated the soldier, spilling blood everywhere. The other three were shocked at his display of power, and stood there in awe. Finally, they came to their senses and tried to run.

"Where are you going? You have not yet paid for your sins!"

Neraphym began to feel a new power take hold of him as he materialized powerful streams of energy. He sent this energy hurdling towards the three soldiers as they fled. The energy reached them and exploded with a blast that shook the entire kingdom. As the dust cleared, all that was left of where the soldiers had last been was a hole 50 meters wide. Neraphym felt an almost orgasmic feeling taking hold of him as he had killed his first person. For a demon, the act of killing another living creature gave him much pleasure. This was a new feeling to him... one that he embraced.

His peaceful life was now over. He no longer knew what to do. He spent the next hour digging a grave and burying his departed master. He marked the grave with with an obilisk of solidified energy. The resulting crystal formed a beautiful headstone worthy of the great man it paid homage to. Neraphym said a small prayer and left for Lixus. There he would avange his master's death and begin his new journy to find out about his past. There was so much he did not know about himself... so much his master had not yet told him.

"If only there was a way to bring you back..." Neraphym said to himself as we walked off into the distance. "I will find out the truth. I will right the wrongs done to you, Master. I swear!"

Sounds like an ancient text thingy I'd write.. good work!

HOWEVER...

It sounds like you stole pieces from the world of Diablo (Heaven VS Earth, a rip forms and demons pour onto the Earth) And of Sacred (Seraphim angel race, though they could have originated elsewhere)

There is nothing new under the sun. any point you can make, or story you tell, is point that has been made, and story already told if not in so many words. every author is prone to barrow from other works even if they do not relize it at the time. I am not trying to be mean or anything. I am just saying that I myself do not see any problemes with this story displaying paralels to another, simpely becuase it is expected of all tales(to ring true becuase more then one person has dreamed up similar vistions, wich gives it validity)...I enjoyed this read. though to me it seems a little like a back story to a main charector and his purpose. tell me Alpha Weapon, do you plan to write more about Neraphym? becuase I would very much enjoy reading more...it would be neat to see a sort of chronicels of Neraphym sometime in the future.

I'm gonna start reviving this and eternity. I would like some suggestions, but keep in mind that I may not use them. What I have thus far is just a background story. I plan on writing the rest of it with dialouge and what not, rather than just telling this as a myth.

Updated... I spent a few hours writing this just now. Oh, and Star, thanks for helping me get started.

Edit: Listen, I don't have a spell checker or an editer. No making fun of me if I spelled something wrong or forgot a letter here and there. My most common mistakes are forgetting the y in they or the r in your. Something stupid like that. sad.gif Anyway, enjoy.
