Decreased Tolerance Has Runescape lost its generosity?

Go on a free-to-play server, and bounce around a few places. What do you see? You can see commerce, questing, triumph, defeat, everything that might be a single element within Runescape. Yet there has been another element, a growing one, one that appears to be sweeping over the Runescape Nation - decreased tolerance.

Have you ever had a low level player come up to you? Have they ever told you that they had recently died, and wanted but a mere 2-3 hundred GP, or maybe even just a spare weapon of iron or steel. A while back, that person would often answer, kindly, "Sure. I'm glad to help people in need grnwink.gif " But today, it seems that people have a low tolerance to that, or anything. The population of Runescape, in a sense, is getting... "meaner".

The point is, this isn't just for small demands from low-leveled players, it's everything! If a player says "Can someone please spare a law rune? I'm out...", then a kind answer would be, "Sure, no problem!" I myself have asked this question a few times, but often only to come up with either silence or a snicker of "Get ur own n00b." When it comes to making deals, it seems that no one is ready to maybe give a small discount because a player can't afford it. If I wanted to by Mithril Legs and they cost 2k, and I said I only have 1.6, I would bet anything the seller would just tell me, "Well, that's too bad. Bye." In my opinion, it's an outrage!

Tell me what you think about my observations. The population of Runescape can do a lot better than this. Trust me, I know they can. So... what do you think?

Most of the time they flood you with trades and offer junk for weapons, if you don't give them anything they will learn how to make money for themselves or quit. bluetongue.gif

It gets annoying when every game you play has noobs doing that...I mean really annoying sometimes its tolerable bet when you get home from school you want to blow some steam off and they add to it >_< NOw im not saying I wouldnt help a noob but on Runescape its kinda Rare to find a Actual N00B and those snickers is because of your lvl when you are high lvl you are expected to have the Items or Gp for the items you want to buy if you are a low lvl it is hard to find nice people but sometimes you do

I think that being a low level in runescape, or even being new to it, is a sort of childhood.

Back when i was just starting, I know I did things like that. I tried to trade people 30gp (a great deal bluetongue.gif) for a santa hat, on several occasions. I was so proud of myself when i got my first 2k coins, and i would go around asking for free stuff. And people would sometimes scornfully ignor me, and sometimes they'd take me in and let me have some stuff.

I think that when you are new to runescape, you don't necessarily know the proper "edicate" yet. Like, you negotiate a deal with someone before trying to trade, and things like that. Like what "n00b" means, what the heck an "addy kite" is. blah, stuff like that.

My point is, don't look at it like "OMFGZ0RZ DIS N00B I5 LI3K S00 STUPID 4ND 4NN0YING!!" look at it as "gosh, s/he just hasn't been on runescape much, and doesn't know better.

For things like asking for iron swords, or a few gp, I freely give out these things. For me an iron longsword is 3 minutes. For some people, it's a life's dream.

Just be kind, and remember that you used to be like that.

pardon my saying so, but you only just noticed this? it's been this way for teh better part of a year now. i think its because of the influx of new players from the rs2 update (rs had several alrticles about it in gamer mag's and i beleive it was mentioned on techTV's gameing show. anyway, we have gotten a lot of new players, and people do eventualy get fed up with people asking dumb questions, which leads to the rudness. I try to help people out still, but there's a limit to what i'll do. ie. i helped a level 50ish learn how to do coordinate trails, (lead him to the observatory and to get the insturments) however, i dont bother with the people who want to buy my rune armor, because I only have 1 set, and i realy hate buying kitesheilds from players because everyone over charges for them. I think it realy does stem from outragious requests, enough people ask you to sell them the armor that is keeping the fire giant in front of you from killing you, and you start blowing people off.

If the item was something I could afford and the people are nice enough to ask. At my last day(The point where I just stopped playing) of playing runescape i gave away my r2h to a person who got scammed out of one. I remember being a n00b and being scammed out of my iron long.... i worked hard for it so i knew how the person felt lol. i also reported the person who scammed him.

i really liked the rs1 people. they werent so greedy back then. once in a while you will find an ******* but its really rare. (there were more bald ppl then too bluetongue.gif)

rs2 is full of assholes... im not saying anyone in seed is but there have been multiple scammers and the uber beggars. bluetongue.gif *Gets back to eating ramen* bluetongue.gif

I never begged for stuff, even after losing my first (and only at the time) set of rune. I just worked for my stuff back. Also, I never give stuff to random people if they ask... Oftentimes it's people who have skills and are just too lazy and stupid.

I agree with you 100%, Hyper. If I started playing RS today, instead of ~2 years ago, I'd quit faster than you could say "antidisestablishmentarianism." When I joined, I was fortunate because people actually played RS for fun instead of just racing to the top of the hiscores. I don't think I met a single rude person, killstealer, or scammer until several weeks after I started. Now I meet several a day, even on member servers. It's sad, really.
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.

It's good to be nice to others. I always seem to find new people and I try and help them out when I have the time. And if it was something I could spare, I would give it to them.

However it does seem that now that RS2 has come out, more people ARE getting greedier and greedier. For example:

A new person asks for help and I say "Sure - what kind of help do you need?" and then when they state their problem I'll help them if I can and then all of a sudden everyone else around me suddenly goes "Ooh ooh give me free stuff too" even if I heard them a minute ago going "Look at me everyone - I have 400k."

People seem to be just looking out for themselves and wanting their own. Peoples treatment of others seems harsher now. They use foul language whenever people ask them something and no one seems to be nice anymore. And also some people I seem to help get greedy and ask for even more stuff - pushing the limits.

If only RS could go back to the way it was - a nicer game with a nicer community.

^^ Thanks Ayumi, you rock!! ^^

What you are saying highly unreasonable, If I was selling Mithril Legs for 2k and someone approached me with an offer of 1.6 I'd probably decline, you don't have to be friends with everybody, and also how do you bring in the extra profits when selling below the market average. People have a reason to be greedy and good on them, players work hard and pump heaps of hours into the game not to be boycotted by the people.

You know those mean shadey type of guys that push them out of the way and say, "Get your own, your well being is no concern of mine." Well you could consider me one of those. Unless I'm either feeling very generous, playing EQ instead of RS (since everyone on EQ is nice biglaugh.gif ) or unless I know you. So yeah...I hate noobs...what else is new?
