silverspy3...there are of course alot of things you dont have to do(like I said there is alot you can get away with, in html). and yeah you dont always have to do stuff like enter in a tag for something that has adefualt setting, but it is a good idea to do so, as some colors may look bad at a browsers defualt text size, or some fonts may not apear as clearly as you would like...

my advise is to get the basics, then get a junk page site that youll use to toy around on and find your style. it doesnt need to be about anything in particular.
you can use it to put into practice that knowledge that you have retained. it is a good way to figure out what you want to do.

also finding out (through trying to leave out as much as possible), what you can get away with is a good idea. learning what is manditory-the core of a web site- and what is optional-stuff you dont need or can do without- is something a first timer may want to consider. experiment lol.

really a good web site is rare. it is a balance between estetics and content that you kind of have to figure out for your self. an informitive page will prolly' not have alot of images, exept when in refrence to a diagram or something, and porlly' wont even have a backround(defualt white). while a page themed around some interest or hobby will express itself through usefull pictures, and text in mild refrence to the pics. and then again you have your personal web pages ...these I do not really like as they give you little if any content beyond asl, and overload you with so much imagry that you get a real quick sence of what a person is about(I like to find that out with out having a seisure lol).

basicaly theres alot of stuff you can leave in our take out but its all up to you. however to avoid making a really stupid and pointless site visit The web page from hell ...note: this a site on how not to make a web page. it gives a self evident exmple of stuff you should avoid doing...this may cuase permanent brain damage lol.
