Alright, below are several bits of info that are useful to those who are in a guild (this means YOU)

I apologize for the hasty copy+paste job, I'll try to put them together better when I have more time.

Hello Everyone,

I can see that a lot of questions have popped up about the system and so I wanted to do a brief write-up to explain some of the new features and how they will all work in-game. Below is a brief FAQ and explanation of the new system and how it will work.

Q. What are Player Guilds in EQ2?

A. Player guilds are organizations that ally themselves with one of the two cities in-game (Qeynos or Freeport). These organizations are created to support the factions in each of these cities (currently there are 5 factions in-game for Qeynos and Freeport). "Guilded" players of the same city may ally themselves with any of the faction groups within their home city in order to gain experience and levels for the guild as well as personal status. This translates into rewards from not only the faction, but also the city itself. Player Guilds can have two types of members: Patrons and Followers.

Q. What are City Factions in EQ2?

A. City Factions are the organizations and locations that a player can go to in-game in order to obtain “City Writs” and to purchase rewards.  The merchants that sell rewards at city faction locations are called the faction merchants.  The faction merchants charge coin for rewards and both patron and followers in a player guild may pay coin for rewards.  As individual players continue to complete “city writs” for the factions, they will raise their faction standing with that particular group and unlock more items and rewards for purchase from the factions.  Examples of city factions include and are not limited to: The Freeport Militia, The Tunarian Alliance, The Dismal Rage and The Concordium are a few examples of the3 factions that can be found throughout the cities of Qeynos and Freeport.

Q. What type of rewards can I expect to purchase from faction merchants?

A. City Faction merchants will have items that are flavored to the groups they represent.  An example would be the armor of the Freeport Militia, a Throne from the Dismal Rage, a Title from the Concordium and some interesting Tomes of Ancient Knowledge from The Academy of Arcane Sciences.  In addition to the rewards that can be purchased, certain rewards (such as titles) will bestow recognition upon individuals and will alter the behavior of faction NPC’s towards an individual.  An example would be that a player that had attained the rank of “Sergeant-at-Arms” in the Qeynos Guard will be greeted and saluted by his fellow guardsmen and shown the recognition that his station deserves.

Q. What are City Prestige Merchants in EQ2?

A. City Prestige Merchants are the individual merchants in each city that offer certain goods that are only available for purchase by patrons in player guilds.  Some rewards are earned when a guild levels up and other are available for optional purchase at these city merchants.  The cities of Qeynos and Freeport each have 4 city merchants where patron goods can be found and purchased with personal status.  They are located in each of the four city proper zones for each city.

Q. What type of rewards can I expect to purchase from city merchants?

A. City merchants will sell goods for personal status and some coin.  Certain rewards are unlocked to player guilds automatically by virtue of their growing guild level.  Some examples of rewards that are automatically unlocked are: reduced coin cost on mounts, reduced cost on housing in the city proper, additional items on the city merchant lists, a guild tag is displayed to all players once a guild reaches the appropriate amount of fame within their home city and new guild raids are awarded for completion of reaching particular player guild levels.  Other goods that can be purchased from these lists include but are not limited to the following items: Tradeskill Devices for placement in a home, certain costumes and fine clothing that cannot be purchased in the city, rare and precious pieces of art that can help pay the status upkeep on a expensive home and titles of nobility within the city structure.

Q. What is Guild Experience in EQ2?

A. Guild Experience is measure of your guild’s overall contribution to the well-being of the city. This is handled in much the same manner as adventuring through a level progression system. As your guild member’s accrue more guild experience, their guild level will rise. As the guild level rises, this will unlock more prestige rewards that the guild will have access to for their contributions at the city prestige merchants.

Q. What is Player Status in EQ2?

A. Status is a measure of the personal contribution that players gain as they complete writs for their home city. In order to earn status you must be in a player guild and accept "city writs" from whatever faction you choose to work for. Gaining status with these factions will unlock rewards that both patrons and followers can spend coin to accrue in-game at the faction merchants.

Q. What is a Patron?

A. Patrons are members of a guild that has been marked as a contributor by the guilds leadership. This means that a patron earns guild experience whenever they complete “city writs”. A patron also has the ability to spend status points to purchase rewards for themselves and their guilds at designated city merchants.

Q. What is a Follower?

A. Followers are members of a guild that are not marked as contributors by the guild leadership. A follower may complete “city writs” alongside their guild mates but the do not gain guild experience, only personal status. A follower cannot spend status points but they can purchase faction rewards as members of the guild (with personal coin) at designated faction merchants. Followers can also participate in guild raids that are awarded for attaining “Hallmark Levels” with their guilds.

Q. What are “City Writs”?

A. Writs are tasks that are given by each of the factions in the cities of Freeport and Qeynos. These are small quests that are used to garner both personal status (patrons and followers) and guild experience (patrons).

Q. How do you figure out Guild Level?

A. Guild level is a “rough” average of the total amount of experience contributed by the guild patrons. In addition there is a modifier for guilds with fewer than 12 patrons that will make it more difficult to raise their guild level.

Q. What is Guild Experience Decay?

A. Decay reflects the need for Player Guilds to maintain their current standing within the city by continuing their efforts to rebuild their community in the events following “The Shattering”. Over time, accumulated guild experience decreases. What this means is that if patrons do not continue to complete city writs, the guild level will drop and this could change the access that players will have to specific guild rewards.

Q. Can you betray your city and participate in the player guilds system once you have completed the betrayal quest?

A. Members that betray their cities will be considered full members of their new homes once they complete the betrayal quest. This means they can participate in the player guilds system in their new city as if the character originated from that city once the quest is complete.

Q. Can I be a citizen of Freeport and join a Qeynos aligned guild?

A. Yes you can but you cannot form the guild. We do not restrict the creation of guilds in-game but guild members that are from an opposing city cannot speak to city “task-givers” or receive rewards from “city-merchants”.

Q. What if I don’t choose to betray my city but wish to maintain membership in a player guild from the opposing city.

A. We do not restrict players or player organizations in any way from forming alliances with citizens of the opposing city.  Whatever is done by the citizens while adventuring in the wilds is not the business of the city government.  However, the opposing city will not recognize a guild member from the opposing city as being friendly and will summon the guards to remove the hostile intruder.

Citizens of the opposing city may still sneak into their guilds city and will have access to housing that the guild has given permission for them to enter and they also will be able to participate in the “City Raids” as these events take place far away from the watchful eye of the citizenry.

Q. What are the “Hallmark” Guild Raids?

A. This is an additional raid that is unlocked as the guild levels up and gains new guild experience. The city gives the guild organization a special commission to seek out and destroy particular enemies. Once unlocked (assuming the necessary guild level is maintained) the guild can complete the raid once a week. Both patrons and followers of the guild city can participate in “Hallmark” raids as well as members that are of the opposing cities citizenry.

Q. How do I form a guild?

A. All you need to do is form a 6 person group and make sure that you are citizens of your city of choice. Speak with the City Registrar in Freeport or the Royal Accountant in Qeynos and follow their instructions to form the guild.  You will have to pay a fee of 60 silver for the initial charge to form the organization.  You will need to be in a group of six people in order to form a guild with these NPC’s.

One of the things that the team wanted to try in EQ2 was adding meaning to guilds in-game. When we decided upon the setting of a “good” and “evil” city, we also decided to try and add in player organizations as a continuing part of the storyline for EQ2.

In order to make the experience meaningful, we gave the players a choice and that choice has benefits and consequences. Also, we built game mechanics around that choice in order to support the fiction of the game world. This is what we wanted to offer so that the players could be immersed in the new Norrath.

The cities in EQ2 are the supreme power in Norrath and as such, the factions and then ultimately the guilds are dependant upon them to provide all of the basic necessities such as shelter, protection and general supplies. When you choose what city you want to spend your career in, we wanted that choice to be meaningful and I think we have accomplished that.

The same can be said for what organizations you ally yourself to, going forward we are going to greatly expand upon the storyline we have begun in Qeynos and Freeport. The conflict between these two powers will take center stage and player guilds will be the organizations that wage this “Cold War”. This will happen through intrigue, assassinations, resource raids and a few other designs we have going forward with the project. This was all planned from the beginning and while I know that some may be uncomfortable with the change in guilds from one game to another, we wanted to give it a shot.

The guild system is a prestige system we have implemented to provide an additional layer of content and storyline for those that desire it in our game. For those that prefer the more open player association guilds that they have formed outside of the game, we have not limited or reduced the content in any way to restrict these organizations. You can still group with whomever you want, gather your members, ignore your cities wishes and head into Permafrost to raid Vox with no penalty.

EQ2 is a new game and we wanted to go forward with guild progression in a different way, while not limiting the option of allowing players to pursue their old avenues of organization from other games. Some have stated that we are basing the system on an arbitrary piece of fiction. This is true; all game systems from spells to combat to tradeskilling to almost any form of entertainment medium are based upon arbitrary fiction as this is part of telling a story. How we differ from most entertainment mediums is that we have an online game that supports these arbitrary stories with game mechanics to strengthen immersion. Our intention has always been to create a deep, intimate and meaningful game for our players to enjoy.

We also wanted to create the most immersive online world in the history of gaming and we think this is a step in the right direction.

Thank you guys for your questions and feedback and I’ll see you in the new Norrath!

The Unofficial Political Prestiege Q&A

Original and probably more up to date version: http://eqiiforums.st...&message.id=346

QUOTE
Fellow guild leaders, guild members and players:

I have put this document together for my own understanding, and to help my guild better understand the political meta-game system that guild's can choose to participate in.  In just the last five weeks we've seen some pretty significant changes to the system (removal of guild decay, writs no longer based on guild level, etc.).  I know the system will continue to evolve and change over time, so I hope to continue to update this document for the betterment of everyone.

Few things to note before reading through this:

    * This is my first revision - it's STILL a work in progress!
    * Feedback - if you have solid facts about the system that I've gotten wrong or left out, let me know.
    * I don't claim this is 100% accurate or complete - however most of the verbage below was cut and pasted from developer comments
    * Since I'm in a Qeynos based guild, I tend to know more about the names and locations of those NPCs.  Specific info about Freeport is appreciated.

Many thanks to Mario Rizzo and BonePile for all of their input into the thread on the beta boards dealing with this same subject.  Additional thanks to the many guild leaders, guild members and other players who have posted in this thread and others here on the Guild forum with valuable information, insight and corrections.

Thanks.

What are Player Guilds in EQ2?
Player guilds are organizations that ally themselves with one of the two cities in-game (Qeynos or Freeport).  These organizations are created to support the factions in each of these cities (currently there are 5 factions in-game for Qeynos and Freeport).  "Guilded" players of the same city may ally themselves with any of the faction groups within their home city in order to gain experience and levels for the guild as well as personal status.  This translates into rewards from not only the faction, but also the city itself.  Player Guilds can have two types of members: Patrons and Followers.

What are Status Points in EQ2?
Status points are a measure of the personal contribution that players make as they complete writs for their home city.  In order to earn status you must be in a player guild and accept "city writs" from whatever faction you choose to work for.  Gaining status with these factions will unlock rewards that both patrons and followers can spend coin on to acquire in-game.

What are “City Writs”?
City writs are tasks that are given by each of the five factions in the cities of Freeport and Qeynos.  These are quests that are used to garner both personal status (patron & follower) and guild experience (patron).

*** Please Note:  As of December 2004, City Writs are no longer dependent upon guild level.  They are now strictly dependent upon player level. ***

The five city factions in Qeynos are:
The Qeynos Guard (Fighter)
The Concordium (Mage)
The Tunarian Alliance (Scout)
The Celestial Watch (Priest)
The Ironforge Exchange (Artisan)

The five city factions in Freeport are:
The Freeport Militia  (Fighter)
The Arcane Scientists  (Mage?)
The Buccaneers  (Scout)
The Dismal Rage  (Priest?)
The Coalition of tradefolk  (Artisan)

[Will be updated when supplied with the names and locations of the writ givers]

How does the Guild’s Level and my Character Level affect the City Writ quests I receive?
As of December 2004, Guild level no longer affects the writs you are given.  Writs are strictly based upon your character level.

Should I focus on completing writs for a single faction or all of them?
You are not restricted to a single faction, but it will be more difficult to raise faction with multiple groups versus a single group.  Completing a writ for one faction will negatively impact the other four.  However, it seems to be the case that one positive faction boost outweighs the negative faction hits.  Thus, by completing writs for all factions you are still gaining positive faction with each, albeit VERY slowly.  By focusing on one or two factions you will unlock their faction rewards much faster.  You may quest for and purchase rewards from any faction that you choose within your home city.

Please see Suleman’s post entitled “Player Guild & Faction Rewards Revealed” for specific faction rewards.

What is Guild Experience in EQ2?
Guild Experience is measure of your guild’s overall contribution to the well-being of the city.  This is handled in much the same manner as adventuring through a level progression system.  As your guild Patrons accrue more guild experience, your guild level will rise.  As the guild level rises, this will unlock more prestige rewards that the guild will have access to for their contributions.

How does the game calculate Guild Level?
Guild level is a “rough” average of the total amount of experience contributed by the guild patrons.  In addition there is a modifier for guilds with fewer than 12 patrons that will make it more difficult for them to raise their guild level.

What is Guild Experience Decay?
As of December 2004, Guild decay is no longer a part of the Patron system.  You now keep the experience (and levels) your earn for your guild.

Can a Guild’s level decrease?
This is no longer possible due to the removal of guild decay.

What does the Guild’s Level influence?
The following occurs as the Guild rises in level:

    * More status rewards become available on the nine social status merchants.
    * The coin and/or status cost of status rewards will decrease as the guild levels.
    * Hallmark Raids become available at certain guild levels.
    * Certain NPCs in your home city may treat you differently (not confirmed).

What does my Faction Level influence?
As you complete city writ quests, whether as a Follower or Patron, your faction standing will increase with the group you’re doing the quests for.  As your faction with this group rises, it will unlock more status rewards with the corresponding faction merchant.

What is a Patron?
Patrons are members of a guild that have been marked as a contributor by the guild’s leadership.  This means that a patron earns guild experience whenever they complete “city writs”.  By completing city writs, the Patron is directly contributing experience to help the guild level.  A patron also has the ability to spend their personal status points to purchase rewards for themselves and their guilds at designated city merchants.  This is an ability that Followers do not have.

Does being a Patron give you a game-play advantage?
No.  Being a Patron is not designed to give your character a game-play advantage.  It is designed to be a fun, competitive meta-game where guilds can compete within their city.  Patron specific status rewards are more for “flavor” versus being an uber item or critical quest piece.

Is there a penalty for having less then 12 Patrons in a guild?
Yes.  If you have less than 12 patrons it will affect your guild’s leveling performance.  This is to prevent a guild of 6 people from having a very high average and outperforming guilds in the regular structure.

Is there a penalty for having more than 36 Patrons in a guild?
No.  However, it is probably wise to have a small group of patrons that consistently complete city writs.  This smaller group of individuals will be able to maintain the guild level and expand on it in a much more efficient manner than 100 people doing them intermittently.

With the removal of guild decay, this old method of "a few active Patrons" may no longer apply.

What is a Follower?
Followers are members of a guild that are not marked as contributors by the guild’s leadership.  A follower, like a patron, may complete “city writs”.  However, followers do not gain experience for the guild – they only gain personal status.  A follower cannot spend their personal status points but they can purchase faction rewards with personal coin at designated faction merchants.  Followers can however participate in “Hallmark” guild raids that are awarded for attaining “Hallmark Levels” with their guilds.

What happens if I am promoted from Follower to Patron?
The following things will occur:

    * You will retain your personal status points.
    * Your guild contribution level will be zero to start.
    * A percentage of experience you earn from city writs will go to the guild’s total.
    * You will gain access to Status Merchants in addition to Faction Merchants.

What happens if I am demoted from Patron to Follower?
The following things will occur:

    * All experience you earned for the guild will be subtracted from the guild’s total and lost.
    * Your guild contribution level is reset to zero.
    * You will retain your personal status points.
    * You will no longer have access to the four Status Merchants.

Can I choose to stay a Follower and not be a Patron?
Yes.  There is no requirement to become a Patron.  You can still complete city writ quests, gain faction, and have access to Faction Merchants as a Follower.

Can I choose not to participate at all?
Yes.  There is no requirement to do city writ quests at all.  Like crafting or general questing, it is up to you whether you want to experience that aspect of the game.

What happens if I leave the guild?
The following things will occur:

    * You retain your personal status points.
    * As a Follower, it does not affect the guild’s level.
    * As a Patron, the experience earned for the guild is subtracted out and lost.
    * You cannot spend your personal status points until you join another guild.

***Please Note***:  People have reported losing ALL of their personal status points upon leaving a guild.  This is believed to be a bug until a Dev confirms otherwise.

Can I take my guild contribution points to another guild?
No.  Any experience you contribute as a Patron for a guild is tied to that guild.  If you leave, the experience you contributed is subtracted from their total and lost.  When you join another guild and become a Patron, your guild contribution will be zero until you’ve completed city writs for that guild.

Can I lose my personal status points?
No.  You cannot lose your personal status points.

***Please Note***:  People have reported losing ALL of their personal status points upon leaving a guild.  This is believed to be a bug until a Dev confirms otherwise.

Status & Faction Rewards
There are nine merchants in both Qeynos and Freeport that are part of the Social Status system.  Five of these merchants are Faction Merchants and four are City Merchants.

Who and Where are the Faction Merchants?
Faction Merchants correspond to the five factions within your home city.  Both Patrons and Followers can purchase status rewards from Faction Merchants using personal coin.  Prices on these merchants should be the same for both Patrons and Followers.

Faction merchants are typically located near their corresponding writ givers.  They can be found in the following locations:

Qeynos
1. The Qeynos Guard: Merchant Aldermun - up the first set of palace stairs, then off to the right of the stairs in a cubbyhole.
2. The Concordium: Merchant Shinolio - first floor of the mage tower flanked by a flying carpet.
3. The Tunarian Alliance: Merchant Trillium - up on the Arbos tree platform.
4. The Celestial Watch: Merchant Meredeth - inside the Temple of Life, flanked by two spirit steeds.
5. The Ironforge Exchange: ? (presumably inside the Ironforge Exchange behind the estate - currently there is only one NPC there that is neither a writ giver nor a faction merchant).

Freeport
[If someone has the exact names and locations of the Freeport faction merchants, please post here and I will add them.]

Who and Where are City Merchants?
City Merchants can be accessed by Patrons only.  Patrons can use their personal status points to purchase status rewards from these merchants.

Qeynos
1.  Qeynos Harbor:  City Merchant Rabbleson – SE side of the archways that lead to the docks.
2.  South Qeynos:  City Merchant Jowling – second story of The Herb Jar  (vial symbol on the map)
3.  North Qeynos:  City Merchant Tatterhorn – inside the armor shop, Call to Arms.
4.  Eldarr Grove:  City Merchant Mirthmire - inside Antonica's House of Pottery (bow & arrow symbol on the map)

Freeport
[If someone has the names and locations of the City Merchants, please post here and I will add them].

What types of things can Patrons purchase from Status Merchants?
The status reward inventory that Patrons have access to at Status Merchants are similar to the ones that Followers have at Faction Merchants.  The main difference in the rewards are the way they are "flavored".

Some examples of this would be:

    * a nice painting to hang in your home;
    * a nice new uniform to wear around town;
    * a cool piece of furniture that others could admire.
    * a cool title with a thank you letter from a faction for all of your hard work on behalf of the city.
    * increasingly better tradeskill machines to put in personal housing.

Followers have access to the same item “types” (i.e. furniture, art, clothing, etc.) at Faction Merchants, but the specific items may differ.

What if I completed the Betrayal Quest?
Members that betray their cities will be considered full members of their new homes once they complete the betrayal quest.  This means they can participate in the player guilds system in their new city as if the character had originated from that city to begin with.

What are the “Hallmark” Guild Raids?
This is an additional raid that is unlocked as the guild levels.  The city gives the guild organization a special commission to seek out and destroy particular enemies.  Once unlocked (assuming the necessary guild level is maintained) the guild can complete the raid once a week.  Both patrons and followers of the guild city can participate in “Hallmark” raids.

Hallmark raids will reward in-game items but not to the significance of normal adventuring raids.  They are intended to be an added "bonus" for guilds aiding their city.  The toughest fights in the game are still found and un-locked in the traditional manner.

Hallmark raids do not give out the "phat lewt".  Instead they are fun gatherings that the guild can take part in.  Think of them in the same manner as a quick "pick-up" raid that gives the members who are just logging in something quick and fun to do.
