Sorry, Wrong Number Blarhly Blarg Blargity.

I believe, using the power of deduction, that Mrs. Stevenson's killer was her husband. Since Mrs. Stevenson was incapable of doing many things on her own, Mr. Stevenson had to take care of not only himself, but also Mrs. Stevenson. This would become very pressuring since he had to work into the night. It would be a perfect motive to hire a trained killer.
Mrs. Stevenson was ungrateful, insecure, and impatient. Her husband had to put up with her for twelve years. She even told the operator that "he waits on her hand and foot." And even worse, she called the maid, who her husband pays out of his own salary, big and lazy.
Mr. Stevenson would also be one of the only people who actually would know her. Since Mrs. Stevenson was an invalid, and couldn't leave the house, her husband and the maid would be the only ones with, not only a motive, but a knowledge that she exists. Since Mr. Stevenson was paying the maid, the maid would have no reason to kill her employer's wife. That leaves only Mr. Stevenson as the killer's employer.
Another reason Mr. Stevenson would hire the killers is that he would be the only one who knew all the logistics of the murder.
