Ideas for Leadership Project
Topic (idea): Changes in leadership/leaders over time and the factors that led to the modern concepts of leadership
Possible Factors:
- Agricultural Revolution (before written documents; allowed for construction of cities and early civilizations/cultures; “leaders” were required, though were probably warlords and power wielders; religion was probably a major factor, and people had very few rights)
- Code of Hammurabi (very early code of laws; evidence of some of the people’s needs being considered)
- Religion (example is Divine Right of Kings)
- Emergence of “leadership” in Rome (Caesar can be considered a charismatic leader; set an example for European civilizations after this period)
- Needs of the people
- Renaissance (origin of many modern ideologies)
- Rebellions (like democratic movements during 1700-present day)
- Industrial Revolution
Examples of Leaders:
- Julius Caesar
- Alexander the Great
- Confucius
- Charlemagne
- Abraham Lincoln
- Gandhi
- Hitler (example of a modern power wielder)
- Stalin (another example of a modern power wielder)
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Examples of Periods of Change:
- Middle Ages
- Renaissance
- Rise of Modern Democracy
- Future (possibility)
Activities (ideas):
- Situations (from different time periods)
- Game (probably not; may not be enough time and it is a serious project)
- Passage to Read (if enough time, may be able to provide a historical document as an example of change in leadership)
- Diagram of Change (maybe like a flowchart)
Quiz:
Possible short-answer question: “Compare and contrast leadership in two of the following time periods:” (will include everything we discuss)
