Prefer headphones myself, they give a better sound quality and as long as you dont wear em for at least 5 minute's an hour they are fine. otherwise you'll get earache, which is not good. But i'm just waiting for the hammer to fall...

Surround is good, but not quite as good as high quality Headphones. i have both. just cant hook my surround up to the computer yet. (6.1 full bass and treble support, not long until i can plug em in )
