It was April Fools, I guess it ended up more realistic than intended. 
I thought it would be taken like the Wingdings thing last year, but some are angry and more seem to have fallen for it than I expected. No hard feelings, I didn't intend for anyone to actually become frantic about it.
The old forums don't work anymore (I made it so they don't), so no one's posts can be looked upon badly since they did not know. Next year we'll do something seemingly less damaging, I just thought everyone knew we had backups much more recent than 2002.

that was meeeeeeeean! im not annoyed, i know i was taken in good and proper, although i was wondering about the whole '02 thing. for those wondering, i was on when the 'splode happened. i woulda been there for the whole thing, but theres this slight problem of class ah well, happy april fools y'all.

The forums were taken back to late 2001, before Curvedspace and SeeD combines. Cspace claimed that while he'd been trying to reverse the forums using the Elgoog script, things had gone wrong and he'd lost all the data, and had to go back to the only backup he had.
