So who is your favourite summon from the Final Fantasy games? I tried to use summons that appeared in more than one game. But only being able to list 10 left alot out. So if your favourite isn't in the list, tell us who it is biglaugh.gif biglaugh.gif biglaugh.gif
My favourite is Ifrit, I actually have a big tattoo of him on my back. (yes, it is a real one TheSmile.gif )

Knights of the Round ownz all other summons. It would be even more godly if you could quadra magic, w-summon (casts 8 times consecutively) it like Bahamut Zero. Oh yeah, he's cool, too! And Ark from FF9. I liked Odin, and Diablos. So many great memories. Cactuar, Tonberry, Eden, Chocobo/Mog, Hades, the one guy from Friends... I'm gonna make a list sometime.

Hmm... Tritoch was a mighty useful one... Taught Fire 3, Ice 3 and Bolt 3, plus a fairly devastating Thunder-based summon. Otherwise probably some of the bahamut summons, always strong and nice to look at.

i voted Ifrit. Ark looked awesome on ff9, but it really sucked compared to Bahamut even though Ark was supposed to be the best summon in the game.

Phantom, from FFVI. Since most of the people here are new to the series and ignorant to the original ideas that the series contained, I guess I have to go into detail about it.

Phantom's attack when summoned was "Fader," which made the whole party invisible and invulnerable to physical attacks for a short period of time. Very useful. The Esper also taught very useful spells (Bserk, Vanish, and Demi), spells that helped a great deal at the point in the game in which the Esper was attained.

Summons in the old days accomplished a useful goal that couldn't be accomplished otherwise. Summons of modern-day games are generally just a 5-minute animation that does a little bit of damage. Whoop de doo. No one really cares how many stupid Knights you can draw, how "cute and fuzzy" you can make something that was once as fierce as Carbuncle look, or how desperately you try to replace Ramuh with unicorns and giant flying ... things. Really. Go back to tradition, folks.

QUOTE
*cough* archaic *cough*

You are speaking entirely from ignorance, and not really making much of any point. Had you actually played the older games of the series, I am 75% certain that you would agree with me. (The remaining 25% are people that aren't worth bothering to help.) If you enjoyed the later installments to the series, particularly IX, I strongly urge you to look back upon the series' origins, and the ideas that spawned the modern-day state of the series. What has happened to some of the summons has truly disgusted me.

Shiva - Okay, the goddess that was once a legitimate way to deal damage to a foe is now an excuse for perverted graphic designers to show off their knowledge of the female anatomy. Whoop de doo. I'm sure that making a goddess that was supposed to be deadly be an excuse to show off your anatomical knowledge is a great accomplishment for you moronic graphic designers. Congratulations, you're morons.

Carbuncle - This is a BIG one. Anyone remember the optional boss fight with Carbuncle in FFV? Probably not, since very few here have even played it. Anyway, their current objective seems to be to make Carbuncle look like some kind of Pokemon, going for the "cute and fuzzy" look. Similar to in the case of Shiva, it doesn't matter how "cute and fuzzy" the summon looks, it matters that it puts up a decent fight before it joins you and casts Reflect on your friggin people when asked to without a 3-minute animation to show off fur. Thanks again, graphic designers, for turning my favored Carbuncle into a gerbil. </sarcasm>

Ramuh - Ramuh himself isn't the problem, it's the fact that they won't include him anymore. FFVIII went into Aztec mythology and pulled out the name Quetzacoatl, which they implemented as some kind of flying ... creature. I don't even know what to call that thing. Actually, it looks kinda like a banana. How a banana was better than a cool-looking bearded old guy with a lightning staff is beyond me. FFX later tried to make a stupid unicorn, "Ixion," rather than put in another humanoid Aeon. I'm sure that a giant fire demon really counts as "humanoid," too. Really, I think it would rule to be able to summon old Ramuh in FFX and let him give enemies the beatdown with a staff. I don't even know what type of mythology Ixion comes from, or what it comes from if not mythology. Nor do I care.

I can probably think of others to rant about, but I think I've made my point. It doesn't matter how many stupid knights you draw, how "cute and fuzzy" you make Carbuncle, or how long you make an animation so that people end up falling asleep during them. The summons have been disgraced and dishonored as the populace has continued to accept them.

I was just joshing you, cres. I really would like to play the older ones as soon as I can get my hands on coppies. I agree with you on a lot of them, cept Shiva. She's hot! (Just kidding bluetongue.gif) Anyway, I have no clue where Ixion came from. It is a myth, though, as they used its name in Dark Cloud 2 (*shudders*). Quetzy was bad. They didn't even bother to spell the name right. Ifrit I like, he's a cool looking fire demon. Bahamut, Neo Bahamut, and Bahamut Zero all looked good in FF7, you have to admit that. Also, Final Fantasy has become synonimus with great graphics. They need those 10 minute animation scenes, though some are pushing it.

So you're telling me carbuncle used to look a lot cooler than a Pokémon (alt 130 to get the é)and did more than casting some stupid reflect. (I've never used reflect in the FF seriers. Only in one scenario in FF9, against those grand dragons when I was at a low level.) I cannot wait til i get them.

Oh, and as for "speaking entirely from ignorance," get used to it. bluetongue.gif

I'm not saying that Carbuncle did more than cast Reflect, as that was its primary purpose, and was quite helpful to a party that didn't rely on healing magic. But it put up quite a fight before joining you, if memory serves correctly, and didn't go for the "harmlessly cute and fuzzy" look.

All things cute and fuzzy must die. (Is Mr. Saturn fuzzy?) Except for the Care Bears. I'm am impossibly afraid of their organic stomach lasers.

well Crescens, it looks like someone really knows their summons. I'm impressed. biglaugh.gif I really do agree with you about Ramuh. He was cool! It beats me why they replaced him with that... big... thing. I don't mind Ixion, he's better that Quetzacoatl, but I'd still prefer Ramuh.
I wish I could agree with you about phantom... but a copy of FFVI has not yet managed to come into my possession. So I haven't seen it yet, but it does sound good. sad.gif I do own 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10. X-2 doesn't really interest me that much, though i'll probably still get it one day. Not before I get FFVI.
Also, what ever happened to Titan? He was in five Final Fantasies (that I know of) and then Final Fantasy VIII came along and did what it does so well... it got rid of him.
Ifrit, Shiva and Bahamut are the only summons to have made it into all of the FF's. Ramuh almost did, except when that big "banana" thing and the electric horse replaced him.
Does anyone else agree that Hades needs to make another appearance in a FF game? I liked him.
Ixion is from Greek mythology. Read about him Here and Here. I don't see anything about him being an electric horse... or a horse at all for that matter. But it does mention that he was responsible for the race of Centaurs. (half horse, half man)
meh, I think that's enough from me for today. I'm going to play rs. thumb.gif

EDIT:
Hey look at that, my 100th post. bluetongue.gif
