************************************

Archaic Period: It is a known fact that the world did not begin during the First Age. In actuality there is evidence that even civilizations existed thousands of years before the First Age, but for the most part none made by humans, elves, or any other group like what we know today. There was no writing, but a few glyphs from this period have been found and assumed to be linked to the cosmos. To our knowledge there was no concept of good or evil, the world was a plane of gray possibly ruled by long departed beings of another realm. Maybe even dragons or giants... Or even ogres or the stronger mythical counterpart to the fay. There is little evidence for any solid understanding though, so this period is frequently a topic of heated debate between scholars of our time.

The First Age: The Dawning:

The Beginning of Known Civilization: The "First Age", how it is often known, is marked by the emergence of a human village south of today's Forlon. Fragments of writing and some burial relics have been found in this region, but not much is known about them.

"Old Dharonia": While much of the First Age is a mystery, there is one aspect that is very widely known to the educated of today. The great kingdom of 'Old Dharonia'. Not a whole lot is known about this civilization, even its name was lost (the name Old Dharonia comes from the name of the people who were once there), but enough is known to understand the extent of this kingdom. Old Dharonia encompassed the lands of today's Aderon and Zolandor, along with the land of Frionia before its frozen state.

It was ruled by two groups, the Te'Dharon and the Zal'Dharon. Humans were considered inferior at the time and lived to the west for the most part. The Te'Dharon were in many ways the light for the world, striving to maintain balance in the old world. The Zal'Dharon were master scholars and strived for an understanding of nature.

When the Kardarians emerged from the mountains west of today's Zolandor, however, the balance would be disrupted. In a world of gray they brought darkness, and to maintain the balance the Te'Dharon rallied Old Dharonia to the cause. The Zal'Dharon, however, did not believe in altering the world's course for the emergence of darkness was thought to be inevitable. The Zal'Dharon only wishing to defend their land and pursue their studies and the Te'Dharon looking to go to war with the Kardarians brought great turmoil to their world.

So the Te'Dharon went off to fight the Kardarians and the Zal'Dharon stayed behind. The Kardarians, however, were underestimated and the Te'Dharon did not succeed. When they returned there was great strife between the Zal'Dharon and the Te'Dharon, for with the Zal'Dharon's help they could have won. In the meantime the Kardarians moved to the western continent and drove the agrarian humans eastward into Old Dharonia.

Finally the Zal'Dharon left the kingdom to build their own civilization in the seclusion of the mountains which used to be home to the Kardarians. Soon after, the Kardarians moved eastward to destroy Old Dharonia. After the destruction of their kingdom, strangely the Kardarians moved back west and then disappeared from the known world.

The Zal'Dharon were spared due to their relocation and Te'Dharon fled to what is today Frionia. Since then there has been little real contact between these two people, and neither would build such an extensive empire ever again.

The Ascent of Humans: In the aftermath of the Kardarian invasion, the kingdom of Old Dharonia was left torn and largely unoccupied. With the Te'Dharon settled up north and the Zal'Dharon settled down south, and the western continent thought to now be the home of the Kardarians, the humans came together and organized to survive in their new world... What was Old Dharonia.

While most moved east, some humans remained in the west who were spared by the Kardarians. Some may have even joined the Kardarians but there is little evidence to support this. They would rebuild their world, and the first true human civilization may have emerged there.

There is also a hazy aspect of the history of the humans involving a civilization in the center of the continent. The 'Movers', or so they are called, were a nomadic group who existed during the First Age. Their exact place in history is unknown, but they have seemingly disappeared without a trace sometime toward the end of the period.

The Second Age: The Age of Tempests

Pompelus: Some will argue that Pompelus, the great city of light, was in many ways the 'New Dharonia'. After Old Dharonia fell the humans took the torn region for themselves and rebuilt it for their protection against the darkness emerging from the west. They apparently maintained the same form of sculpted stone architecture that existed in Old Dharonia, kept a similar government, and adopted the principles of the Te'Dharon. There is a lot of evidence that the Te'Dharon even returned, and while they still looked down on the humans, for the most part they accepted that the kingdom no longer belonged to the Dharonians.

Pompelus mostly centered around today's northern Aderon and as the Te'Dharon returned to their lost kingdom it seemed to spread to what is today Frionia. Today's southern Aderon and Zolandor was under the influence of Pompelus, however they were independent from the kingdom. Humans around southern Aderon built farming villages, and those farther south around Zolandor lived as hunters and gatherers in a rather primitive setting. Zolandor was eventually established as an archaic fishing village, and it spread around the southeastern continent over time. The village of the Zal'Dharon began to grow in the mountains and took on the name of "Dharonia", though remained completely isolated from the rest of the world with the exception of some rare contacts with the people of Zolandor.

Valronia: Meanwhile, on the western coast humans built their own kingdom from scratch (perhaps to rival the deserters who left for Old Dharonia during the Kardarian occupation). To our knowledge this was in many ways a neutral agrarian feudal kingdom at first, but their ties to the small continent of Shral Valeron to the west would change this fairly quickly.

The old continent which is now called Shral Valeron was supposedly a rich forest at the time, full of life and maybe even inhabited by the fay. But then Nemorok came to the continent and took it with his legion of wraiths. They killed everything, burned the forests, and turned the rich land into a blighted wasteland in which they could build their empire. The creatures and people they slaughtered there were then raised to build Nemorok's army of undead. Then once ready, the forces of the new Valeronian empire moved to the western coast of Telanidor.

Valronia fought the newcomers, but it wasn't long until the kingdom fell. All who opposed Nemorok were slain, and many others joined him due to both fear and the want for power. So then Valronia fell to darkness.

The Great War: Nemorok's conquest would not stop until he had taken Pompelus, the last force standing in his way. The Te'Dharon and the humans of Pompelus finally drew swords together in the bloody war which was brought to them, but the Valeronians were too powerful. The war waged for years, but eventually Pompelus was broken and almost completely destroyed. Then in one climactic battle, Nemorok brought his entire force to the capital city of Pompelus to pound it into oblivion. Then the 'hero' emerged with a mythical Dharonian sword known as the Skyrite Blade, thought to have been destroyed by the Kardarians in the previous Age. He confronted Nemorok and defeated him, causing the forces of darkness to fall into chaos.

Nemorok's legions then fled to Shral Valeron leaderless, where they remained since then. Pompelus and Valronia, however, were completely destroyed by the onslaught... And neither banner would ever be raised again.

The Aftermath: With the great civilizations fallen into ruin, there was a period of chaos throughout most of Telanidor. Eventually order was restored though.

The land of Valronia became two kingdoms. Izkaldan, a small kingdom in the south, and Forlon, a rebuilt feudal kingdom in the north. Izkaldan would shrink to a less orderly state of agrarian and fishing villages (eventually centering around one port city), and Forlon would grow to control most of the region.

The land of Pompelus was completely destroyed, and for a long time there was no government where it once was. However, a group of humans would build a small inconspicuous village near the Eastern Wood. This small village became known as Aderon... And over time it began to grow as people looked for refuge in the world of chaos. Little did they know, that in a few hundred years this small village would become the dominant kingdom of the eastern continent; a kingdom in the shadow of what was once the lost kingdom of Pompelus.

In the north where the actual city of Pompelus existed, soon after Nemorok's defeat a cold spell emerged. Cursed winds swept across the grassy plains and entombed the region in perpetual ice and snow. The Te'Dharon became known as the Elves of the Arcane Order and built a kingdom where Pompelus once was, believing that they should be ready for another attack in the future. It became known as Frionia, the frozen city of light as it is today.

Meanwhile, to the west Shral Valeron festered as the center of darkness and remained for the most part in the same state.

The Third Age: The Age of Balance

The Corrorian Empire: In a world of feudalism and sorcery, a very different empire began to emerge on the rocky continent of Corroria. With the discovery of "Dark Energy" and technology of an unknown origin, a technologically advanced empire emerged known as the Corrorian Empire. The Corrorians turned their rocky continent, previously mostly inhabited by small animals and arthropods, into a massive city stretching to all coasts and changing the landscape completely. There they remained and developed for hundreds of years, not interested in the rest of the world but instead on future endeavors in space. The true motivation, however, has remained a secret among the Corrorian elite to this day.

The Rest of the Known World: Since the Great War, most of the civilizations of the world kept to themselves. At first this was due to fear. Then isolation became a common principle through time as stories are passed on. Eventually the civilizations gained a sense of superiority through lack of outside contact... And this image of superiority turned into blind ignorance.

Ten centuries since the Great War, this ignorance and sense of superiority began to lead to conflict. In the meantime the forces of Shral Valeron have been waiting to fulfill the goals of Nemorok.
