Well after reading about the Xbox 360 launch and since ATI and Nvidia have launched their next generation cards, I decided to do a poll on Windows Vista, and whether it is really worth it. I have read a lot of positive things about windows vista, but it seems there are going to be a lot of control forced onto your computer, and that there are going to be a lot of anti piracy measures taken to prevent piracy from happening. It's ridiculous enough though about the system requirements of vista, but the anti piracy measures are going to the extreme. So what do you people think about vista? Is It worth it or just better to stay on your current OS?

I don't think I will be upgrading till a few months after it's release

XP is pretty fast and hardly ever crashes when set up right, although it's taken a few years of patches and security fixes to get it right bluetongue.gif

I voted yes, although I don't think it will rock... Windows 98 was solid, ME was just inbetween money making. XP was solid, Vista is inbetween money making...

But yeah, I'm gunna switch the home computer over to linux again, I think. Not sure yet though, I'd have to get samba working properly...

I've been following the Longhorn project somewhat, and I think I will get it sometime, but not very soon after its release. I want to see how everyone reacts to it and how it works out with the general public before I make a buying decision.

98 a solid operating system?? lol10.gif lol10.gif lol10.gif

Anyways, I think I will be putting Vista on my computer in the next couple months once I format my computer again, just to check it out. The I will probably wipe it and put xp pro back on.

*Sigh* More windows bashers. You bash 'Micro$oft' because you're 'so cool', but what OS are you using at the moment?

Anywho.

98 was a fabulous operating system, no laggy load times or anything. I'd like to know what you thought was wrong with it, because I can't think of anything bad about it at all.

Windows ran great for about 4 months after install on your computer. After that pont it hit a wall and took forever to do anything. The first few months of a Win 98 OS were a solid operating system but after that it was crap.

As far as windows 98 and ME being solid, I really doubt that because i had both operating systems, and let me say they were security nightmares compared to what I am running now. But alot of what vista has is probably going to help encourage windows media edition and high definition video, as far as I know there is going to be 7 different versions of vista released. Windows vista sounds like it might be very stable and very innovative, but there is a lot that I dont like about this one. Vista actually takes a more direct approach on controlling your hardware. Direct X10 will finally be released but will be restricted to direct 3d and open gl versions. It's also gonna be a serious hardware beast, they suggest that if you have a 64 bit os, that you need a minimum of 2 gigs and a dual core processor and a serious gpu. But if you want to see for yourself what I mean by this I'll link the sites that I read about windows vista and piracy and other things.

Actually, there's gunna be about 20 versions released, the same as XP, if you include server, 64, OEM version, etc...

i would get linux but since this isn't really mine its a family computer im not gonna change it.

btw xp blows
98 was good.... to an extent. you could tell when it was going to crash and when it did you knew it did.

unlike xp where it goes randomly and when it goes your not sure if its lagging or crashing.

also... xp is a memory hog. ALL i can do is internet.
NO games, Barely play flash movies, music forget it.

Man I have a custom built computer and it runs amazingly well with windows xp, yeah it's true windows xp is BIG memory hog if youi have a low amount of memory, but for me out of experience xp is very stable compared to something like windows 98 or me. I had both of those OS' and they crashed and you knew when they would crash. comp26.gif

There are going to be more than XP...XP had only 5 versions

XP Home
XP Pro
XP Media Edition
XP Tablet
XP 64-Bit

Vista Will have 4 Main Line + Tablet, Media and 64Bit in all flavours. Vista also comes out with Vista Server, which has quite a few more lines of OS's

Actually, XP had OEM versions too, plus others that my brain can't remember. But the general public will only see a few.
