Good luck, and see you when you're back online

Incidentally, is it just that cable sucks in general? Everyone I know with cable internet has problems with outages. Plus, these two recent gems:
--Friday, Comcast randomly came to our house, gave us a startup kit ("first month free" offer, equipment and all... but no setup). I hooked it up that night. Result? The modem turns on, but the "Cable" indicator flashes instead of staying lit. So, I call tech support. First they say our account doesn't have a MAC address registered to it, then (completely forgetting the MAC address issue) they tell me that they probably gave us a defective modem, that they could either send someone out to troubleshoot (for a fee) or we could go to the local office and exchange the modem. Bah. It's your screwup and I'm supposedly on a free trial; why should I waste my time or money on it?
--Also Friday (I think), my brother (who lives on the east coast) discovered his internet was not working. He called his cable company, who told him they'd cancelled the account at his request. (He hadn't, obviously.) They told him they could turn the service back on, but it wouldn't be until Thursday (six days) and they would charge him a reconnection fee. He told them they'd just lost a customer, and cancelled his TV service as well. (Don't know what he did about the TV, but he's now piggybacking on a neighbor's WiFi

)
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.
