General Discussion has no specific topic. If everything that could go in another forum actually went in that forum there would barely be any threads here. Please refer to a few of my threads in Mod Discussion with regards to the purpose of GD and what should be moderated. This forum should be the most active forum, and has a purpose that transcends the others. If one wishes to post a thread with more views, GD is the forum for it. If one wishes to post a thread that has a targetted audience and will have a longer life on the first page, a more specific forum is the place for it. If I were after a dedicated sports discussion I would post this elsewhere, but that's not why I posted this.
Also, not sure if you remember, but back when we had roleplay issues it was said by the admins more than once that moderators should not move threads to a hosted forum (unless requested by the original poster). This is because moderation over that forum is given as a reward, and since few qualifications exist for it, the forum must be kept as an 'island forum'. Threads intended elsewhere should not be sent to a forum won in a contest, for it is possibly temporary and the moderator(s) may not be qualified to have the scope of their powers extend through the board. We can't have some hosted forums worth more than others, so even if a SMod moderates a hosted forum, it still must be considered an island forum.
