laptop prob my old laptop

ya i wanna give my old laptop to my bro but its always had this problem of never starting up again after i put it on standby. anyone know how to fix this problem? (I tried everything from wrecklessly pressing all the buttons, clicking the mouse, pressing enter, holding the power button)

any ideas?

probably a screwed up bios or something... ever thought of formatting the hd and reinstalling windows?
